I think we should wait for Bad Bunny and Blackpink to have some commercial success in this country before they get booked to headline the biggest stage at our biggest festival.

They should test their UK popularity by headlining eFests Fest along with Foals

While I agree that neither is a lock at this point, the latter have headlined BST which isn't too far away from the same ballpark. But who knows how things will stand in 3 or 4 years.

Would personally welcome some of the smaller suggested headliners in this thread. One of the boldest things the festival could do is to transition away from the big pop act/legacy/heritage acts taking top billing. Might fix the vibes a bit as well.

Do this and...

announce the headliners pre ticket sales, might make some "bucket listers" (legacy/heritage act/Glastonbury) think twice.

It doesnt get us past what ostensibly appears to be a significant case of the dropped bollicks by WHQ for this year's shindiggeroony. Proper Rod, Jane and Freddie vibes off Dua+Livvia+Chris 'n the Top Blokes.

I suspect they've been going after Madonna pretty hard and if it wasn't to be it wasn't to be.

Could argue that Coldplay are heritage at this point... It'll literally be 1/4 of a century since their first Glastonbury appearance.

Bowie's slot in 2000 was closer to the release of "Heroes" than we are today to the first time Coldplay were booked.

The slowest selling BST of all time with a reduced arena and ticket giveaways.

It's quite a bit different to Elton and Macca's ballpark, where you wouldn't have been able to find your ball.

Yeah. Definitely not there yet. But it's the yet part that's key. Noone really knows who the hottest act on the planet is going to be in 2027.

Surely Coachella or an abundance of big city day festivals already serve that market? Can’t Glastonbury stay just a bit weird?

Maybe, but every commercial venture needs to move with the times to stay successful. If you look at the current stats, the biggest/most popular acts and artists on the planet aren't necessarily from the pot largely deemed "suitable" to headline the festival.

Glastonbury itself has pivoted many times, whilst still retaining the core of what makes it unique. When that shift takes place every decade or so, it usually means that it no longer has relevance to you and you look for alternatives to get your kicks, or you can choose to embrace change and go with the flow, still enjoying it. Of course, there is also option three: choose to attend but do nothing but moan about how it ain't what it used to be.

Personally, I think a lot of factors are aligning for the next shift in direction for the festival.

Would be very up for Harry Styles. Much more so then interminable Muse, Coldplay etc etc

Not that I'd be anywhere near anything to do Mr* Styles, at least it's some sort of step forward.

* Is that the correct title?

Is it just you complaining, but in more words?

Quite the opposite, it's me writing about what a great festival I had!

Read it, if you can be bothered, you may be surprised.

Couldn't agree more. Culture is an emergent, mercurial thing and you don't stay relevant by being inflexible. It's extremely impressive how much cultural capital Glasto has accrued over the years but that should never be taken for granted.
