O-Rod's GSH plays on my mind.

Obviously Stevie coming along has put her out of the running as a headliner - but could she be there anyway?

Maybe as a punter.

Adele - 1 & done
Beyonce - 1 & done
Billie Eilish - May be back c. 2026/7
Dua Lipa - This year
Lady Gaga - No chance
Madonna - Seemingly won't if she isn't this year
Olivia Rodrigo - Not yet, maybe next year?
Pink - Pyramid couldn't accommodate her show and she is supposedly ruthlessly money driven
Rihanna - No new music/touring plans for years
Taylor Swift - Had the chance and took the Eras dollars instead.  May have missed the chance in 2020.

I agree - depressing state of affairs really.  Small pool and many we could fairly comfortably discount IMO.

Ariana Grande maybe?  Big enough/current enough but would she appeal to a festival audience?

Could you argue that Mariah Carey and Shania Twain are big enough globally?

Know someone did it above but think we've got a current crop of ten female or female-fronted acts who are active as live artists that could headline:

Adele
Beyonce
Billie Eilish
Dua Lipa
Lady Gaga
Madonna
Olivia Rodrigo
Pink
Rihanna
Taylor Swift

There's also Florence and the Machine, who probably still makes it with the assistance of being a former headliner. You discount Fleetwood Mac, because they appear to be over, Kate Bush because she doesn't tour, and Lana Del Rey, because she just did the Other, which shows where Glastonbury see her.

Who else am I missing?

Only if we all go on holiday

What's the no-chance on Gaga? Formerly played the festival and as far as I know, hasn't publicly discounted the possibility.

I went back and forth on Ariana Grande. She's definitely on the bubble, but one of those where if Katy Perry had to settle for third down on the Pyramid...

Think SZA and Doja Cat will be on this list very soon (if not already).  The way Lana Del Rey is going, she is probably big enough - if they fancy another try with her.

Mitski is heading that way based on streaming numbers - still a way off, but that's exactly the kind of 'bump up' headliner I think they should be doing.

Then you have Florence, Lizzo etc - not quite that level.

Looking at the list of Spotify most streamed acts (there is a fantastic site here for the data nerds BTW - https://kworb.net/spotify/artists.html) - there aren't many you could add.  Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Halsey, Miley Cyrus - but all are either non-touring, or not quite the level - it's hard to see many of those being realistic Pyramid headliners (even if a few do have history with the festival).

The other one is Phoebe Bridgers - who now has multiple grammys, collaborations coming out of her ears, and successful albums both solo and part of a group.  Assuming her next solo album goes quite big, I can well see them bumping her up - again, exactly the sort of thing they should be doing IMO.

Health issues.  Other projects (fashion/acting).  Only done 2 shows in the UK in the last 10 years.

Trajectory dependant, they could both be potential future headliners I suppose.  Not sure Phoebe Bridgers has broad enough appeal to be Pyramid headliner material.  Could be wrong.

I love Phoebe, but unless she has some Taytay level success with the next record I can't see her ever being that big.

Totally agree, I think she is fantastic.  Dependent of what the next album does you would feel she is on an upwards trajectory but it is a big jump from Brixton size venues to Glasto headliner.  You would think next tour would be Ally Pally, maybe a couple of nights but that would put her at about the same size as The National which is Other stage headliner territory. If she nailed that and carried on going then yeah it isn't impossible in the further future but would be a path to get there.

I don't disagree on the Glastonbury trajectory - but she is already way beyond Ally Pally level.  In 2022, she did 4 massively oversubscribed nights at Brixton - so that was already 2x Ally Pally or 1x O2 capacity-wise right there.  And that was before Boygenius, Eras Tour support, multiple Grammy wins, SZA collab, etc.

My guess is that if she announced solo dates tomorrow (we can but wish), she wouldn't struggle to shift 50k tickets in London (so 5x Ally Pally, or 2-3x O2).

I think 50k ally pally is a push but she could definitely do 3 nights

Gunnersbury boygenius which she is by far the biggest name in was 20k and didn't sell out

Ariana, maybe?

Edit: Already mentioned. I still think she has a far bigger pull than the likes of Katy Perry and others mentioned.

ahh yeah I forgot she added other nights to Brixton.  I know she was the second stage headliner at Latitude that year and later on Woodsies and was a real draw. Yeah I mean she is definitely really popular amongst the youngsters as well as the 6 music crowd.  Glad I saw her at the Roundhouse before she blew up (and gutted that I missed the better oblivion gig, but my wife said it was amazing).

That better oblivion gig at Shepherd Bush Empire was great (even if it is one of my least favourite London venues)
