Well that gives absolutely nothing away.

Other than  that the tour is continuing into next year, which was no real surprise. It will depend on their summer plans which would either be a US leg, or European festivals. Obviously, only one of those would suggest Glastonbury a possibility.

Quite frankly I’m sick and tired of the ageing near dead rock and rollers they keep wheeling out. FFS be more current.

Rant over.

Oh! But not Taylor f**king Swift (which we now know it isn’t)

Surely with three headliners there's room for both heritage and more current acts?

One up and comer, one currently massive and one heritage is the right mix.

Funny Band Depeche Mode.

Feel they're absolutely massive everywhere outside the UK, but not massive in the UK. I'm fully aware they've just played to a sold out show at Twickenham, but they're doing multiple dates across some countries in Europe.

Would not be against them headlining, just always surprises me when a British bands don't get local hype but do get continental/world wide hype.

I feel if they booked them the same year as Dua Lupa and Rihhanna there would be a mass outcry. And to be honest, none of them are right now multiple stadium selling bands like we've just had. I would expect Dua Lipa could do a BST date and as far as I'm aware Rihannas last effort out outdoor venues didn't light up sales.

But anything for easier sales. I'm focused next year on wasting to divert to some late night areas away from main stages instead.

Depeche Mode are my wife's favourite band but I really like them too.  Was at the Twickenham gig and was great.  My wife is in Berlin at the moment with her sister seeing them well gig was last night and that was their 2nd night in Berlin. I've not asked her which had the better atmosphere but she did say last night's gig was excellent.

Much as I love them I think the potential issue is that they don't really do greatest hits/festival sets that would grab the casual watcher as opposed to the DM fan.  I believe that was some of the criticism when they played IOW a few years back.

We're always guilty though, aren't we?

You won't always get the massive acts like Elton John and Macca. It's never been my main goal the headliners, I think I've seen on average 1 headliner per festival. There is so much going on you don't need to.

As you say, if we have a bit of a downpeak in terms of "quality" (I use that subjectively - as still big names). Then it may make ticket day a little easier.

I think that's what I mean. I don't think they get the love they deserve in the UK. I'm not a massive fan, but they're very, very good, and I appreciate their music.

I just don't think they're hugely popular in the UK, does Glastonbury have that lure for them? That would be the big stumbling block for me. As you've said, they also don't mould their set to festival crowds, so would it just flop?

A lot of people would be shuffling their feet politely clapping for the first 90 minutes or so. Or leaving.

Walking In My Shoes, Its No Good, Everything Counts are hardly deep cuts. But they do need to shuffle it about and make it less end-hit-heavy to pull off a Glasto Special.

Probably better to look at their recent Primavera set instead; which trims some of the slower bloat:

Considering how many shows we got this year its a slim chance they do more. Theres some cities in north america that hadnt gotten a show in over 20 years. Last tour it was 2 legs in north america and 2 europe legs with fests in there. Obviously with them having done Primavera they can do this show easily on the Pyramid and maybe throw in a couple other old songs. The one good thing is the setlist will stray away from the new album and theyll mix in some other songs in there.

Indeed. I saw them at Mad Cool and they nailed it. Slight sag in the middle.

I've never been a fan and maybe I just don't recognise some of the names but I know 4 of them. For what would be seen as the "heritage" headliner, that's some slim pickings.

No agreed. I don't need them but I'll watch if I like them. But there are multiple one's I haven't seen. I missed half of muse a few years back, I didn't see Coldplay last time, I didn't see Radiohead, Stormzy, The Cure, Kanye or Metallica. I rarely see an Other headliner as usually not my cup.

I think they are an Other stage headliner niche that are way too big for that stage.

Do we have any actual info that locks Dua in? Or are we basing it on assumption?

Assumption. Didn’t return for her Other headline slot in 2022 despite doing festivals in the area which seemed most likely because she’d gotten substantially bigger and was waiting out her time for the big gig, and assuming she has new material due later this year or next, then it’s a good bet that this’ll be her time, especially now that we know there are two female headliners. Everything just fits.

You do have to ignore Emily’s ‘it’s their first time’ or whatever comment, but I think that can be chalked up to phrasing and she could’ve meant first time headlining.

Got it. So it looks likely in every single way except officially.

Occam's razor innit. Otherwise there's no earthly reason for why she didn't show up with Reg.

Not sure we can draw a line between the two. If she had turned up it'd be a cracking way to start the speculation.

Rumors are she has a new album already done but is still riding out the tail end of Future Nostalgia and various other projects (Barbie movie) whilst they are hot, before dropping it. My guess is new album drops spring 2024 and does Glasto as part of the big push.

The continuous rumours in Popbitch are that the album is languishing in development hell, with continuous churn on the project and both her and the label aren't happy with it, which is the reason for the delays.

That was rumoured several months ago though.
