Dua/Coldplay/one of Madonna/Rihanna as the trio is gonna have all the ‘real music’ brigade losing their minds. Very TITP-ish set of headliners.

I’m sure they’ll have a new album in the works so that they’re not repeating themselves. Last two albums have been flops by Coldplay standards so they’re probably keen to get something new out, especially if they’re gonna be headlining Glastonbury.

Chris confirmed in a new interview that their next album is out early 2024.

I think realistically Music of the Spheres did about as well as it could have done. It’s very very hard for any artist 20+ years into their careers to have Top 40 singles these days, and Coldplay managed a Top 20 and Top 5 with it. They also crossed 100k sales first week, improving upon the sales of the one before.

Yeah two in a row and people will start anticipating it like a new legend style slot.

Then again, Aerosmith were meant to be doing something similar in 2020, right? Perhaps it is something they're looking to try going forward.

I think it’ll become a semi-standard thing to house big name secret acts. Obviously it’s not gonna be Foos level every year, but for anything Pyramid sub level and above I think this’ll be the way forward.

Dont think Coldplay will be doing it next year though and think that they’re just gonna end up headlining again if they’re there at all.

I think it’ll be normal to have a big surprise act each year on there as they don’t want to put the massive acts on the park or Woodsies anymore.

If you think over the years there’s been Radiohead, The Killers, George Ezra, Biffy Clyro, Foals etc… all doing the big secret sets.  plus Aerosmith and Mumfords were due to do them too on the pyramid (and Foos this year).

Secret sets with big acts has been happening for ages, no reason to think they’ll stop that.

But there is reason to think the days of headliners playing The Park or Woodsies is over.

Think we’ll get more Churn Up style bookings going forward tbh

Not everyone is going to agree to it though. If you can be booked for a sub with longer time, why are you taking a 3rd place down with shorter time?

I think it's a case of Dave and Co just fancied playing it.

It is also worth noting that Coldplay played Glastonbury on the first year of at least 3 of their last 4 album releases, noticeably more so from when they headlined first.

I would think at the moment, Rihanna Dua Lipa and Coldplay is how this is going. Biffy Clyro, Olivia and Pulp in subs...not necessarily that order. I think The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and a rock band of some sort. I generally other harder to predict as I'm rarely there at headline. Aerosmith in that Saturday 3rd down spot.

Reason I put Glastonbury next year too is I don't think the team behind Coldplay with want them to do Wembley again less than 3 years previous, in the same year as Glastonbury. Whether they go on sale early or not. It doesn't make sense for me for them to exhaust the UK on stadiums and play UK again as in this year. Exhaust the UK again in 2024 and then play Glastonbury as a we've nowhere to go.

Yeah it would make sense if they’re planning on doing a lot of U.K. shows in 2025. Foos effectively used it as an ad for their live shows, think we’ll see more big acts doing that. I’m still not totally convinced it’s them but it would make sense.

Coldplay last played in 2016, that right?

Foos played in 2017 and then again this year and that was all well and good, but if Coldplay play again next year that is too soon?

Guess it really is cool to hate Coldplay!

Foo Fighters fidnt headline this year.. if they had've I would have said the same.

Foo Fighters shouldnt be headlining. Neither should Coldplay IMO. Of the 10 Festivals Ive done Coldplay hsve already headlined 2.

3 out of 11 would be too much IMO.

Didnt watch them in 2011 or 2016, and I wouldnt watch them next year either.but still.
