Yeah, but there's a reasonable chance that some of their big hits may have passed you by entirely, even if it's unlikely you won't know any. I also listen to more music than most of my friends and certainly go to more live music than anyone I know. Maybe I’ve heard it before but I’m listening to it now (and, sorry to say, not really enjoying it) and there isn’t a scintilla of recognition. Yeah sure. Going to 2 gigs a year which is 2 more gigs than your friends doesnt really count.
NorthernSoul52
I can understand not knowing songs by name, to a point, but with the sheer number of wedding discos in existence, it feels a bit of a stretch to say you wouldn't recognise Sweet Child O' Mine or Just Can't Get Enough. I reckon it’d be a case of playing someone SCOM and them saying “ohh, THIS is GnR?”

Just like Elton is much more fond of LA than he is of the Uk. And GnR is from LA. So why is there such a demand for artists from LA anyway. Thats 2 years in a row that 2 of the 3 headliners are from La lol.
NorthernSoul52
Sweet Child O' Mine is Guns 'n' Roses' biggest hit, right? I just assumed it was from relentless exposure to it.

You've missed the point. It was the pointing to Music For The Masses as if to say: " how on earth would I have heard GnR when I was listening to this"? Maybe next year we'll continue the trend and get Rage Against The Machine, Dr Dre and RHCP...

I don’t know, those songs came out well before my time but I certainly knew them without seeking them out. There’s probably an argument that Sweet Child Of Mine is one of the biggest rock songs of all time, I’m baffled by anyone who hasn’t heard it. I certainly haven’t ever gone out my way to listen to them but Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City are also massive songs I knew. Now I am sure they may have heard the tune somewhere, but not sure they would know who they are by. Son came with me to Thor so would have heard tunes, but that means little on being able to name a song and band. They are Spotify and YouTube so no chance to probably get a casual listen from radio for example. Radio is for old people

I like to think I am pretty knowledgeable about music but every day Heardle from every era reminds me that the list of stuff I don't know is more than equal to that which I know. There are many hugely popular artists that I know nothing by and the small amounts of exposure I have had to them don't make me inclined to want to know them anymore. It's ok for people to know and like different things. It's what Glastonbury encourages. They wouldn't have small tents in other areas of the festival if the main stages were all that was important.
