I've got to admit I don't know what 'Eats, shoots and leaves all over again....' means. Does it mean the same as 'he shoots, he scores!?' This is a genuine question

It's a book about grammar/punctuation. Implication that you misread what was said.

I was kind of hyped for Fred but watched a live set of his (think it was posted on one of the many threads discussing him on this forum) and just seemed a bit boring...hoping he clashes with Elton

On a related note, has anyone seen his insta stories with Four Tet? They must get on as they've collabed so much, but FT looks like a dad humouring a young son with his BS.

As expected, this is an accepted marketing tactic.  I've a pal in PR who says behind closed doors they call it "dole-washing" to play down privilege and broaden appeal.

Back OT, I was convinced that with the Pyramid looking like a procession of ageing white blokes this year that there's be some serious variety on the Other to balance it up, but seems Lizzo is slated for a Pyramid sub-slot.  If Prodigy are in fact playing they'd be nailed on Other headliners and other contenders all seem to be more white blokes!  Appreciate you can only book who's available, but that's gonna look poor after a few years of pushing hard on the equality and representation agenda.

They clearly made a very conscious effort to have at least one female act topping each of the main stages this year and I’m sure the likes of the Park will still be heavily female-centric what with it being Emily’s stage, but alas when it comes to the Pyramid and Other, they are a little limited on who they can book to headline, especially if there just isn’t anybody appropriate touring around the time. I’m sure the lower tiers of the lineup will more than make up for it though - after all, it’s a 50/50 split overall they’re aiming for, not necessarily who’s topping each stage.

I think Lizzo and Sam Smith are other contenders. There is also talk of Halsey doing it

It’s a context/grammar joke.

”Eats, shoots and leaves” reads differently from “Eats shoots, and leaves”. Just highlighting the shortcomings of the written word.

I don't think it will happen - there is tons of non-dance acts about but that was fairly recently still, don't think its completely impossible to in the future

Me neither.

Halsey I think is more likely, I think her set would do well in the dark. Lizzo is much more main stream here I feel.

Never heard him, but was starting to get interested, although I've the feeling he may be a bit "lightweight!"

Not sure I'll bother now, although that may change is there's nothing else on that grabs me.

Stupid reason not to listen to someone. could be your new favourite thing but instead you have decided to not listen due to what some people on efestivals said of all places 😂

Nothing wrong with being privately educated and having privilege but you shouldn't hide from it.

You never know whos editing wikipedia - obviously was curious as to who the critically acclaimed fitty was and she doesn't even exist?? Not denying he's rich and all but people saying his management are deleting it is jumping to conclusions a bit

I haven't written him off completely.

There's still a chance.

"what some people on efestivals said of all places"

Actually good point , I should have learnt by now, after all the majority on here have very different musical tastes to me. He's probably superb.

You've changed my mind, I'll have a listen when I get back from the gym.

Not jumping to any conclusions. Just saying I don't think people should hide from their privilege and just be honest about it. The music decides but the leg up helps and you shouldn't shy away from that narrative.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, he’s way more chill out than dance.

I think you might agree

Yep, not his fault his parents are who they are!

Where do we put the chances on PJ Harvey making an appearance? Would be a good launchpad for new material which has been rumoured for this year

a lot of people are hoping she will be there but I don't think she has any gigs announced for this year so I don't think it's too likely. I really hope I'm wrong though

Actually - looks, coincidentally, like there's been lots of changes to his wiki page over the last 2/3 days.  I liked the idea that my post here prompted some music industry person who's lurking on here to steam into action, but alas I don't think I've much to do with anything.  I'd not really bothered to look at wiki's historic edits before...

Not on there any more: '. Fred is recently engaged to critically acclaimed artist B Dizzler.'

I was wrong about the 'Fred' bit not being included is his name above, but was previously changed from 'Frederick' John Philip Gibson, a bit too posh.

Yesterday it said 'great grandson of aristocrat and financier'.  Also pointed out by someone above, and removed yesteday '. He is the godson of British musician [[Brian Eno]].'  Those bits removed before later fully removing any mention to either.

I don't know why they changed this bit - sounded much more real - though I don't condone the word fitty: '...is a British nepo baby and member of the aristocracy. He is engaged to critically acclaimed fitty Bethany Denning, and godson of [[Brian Eno]].'

Previously just: 'Fred is a nepo baby and has never not been rich.'  Maybe true, but not quite up to wikipedia standards!

The story made it into yesterday's popbitch newsletter...

"Dance music darling Fred Again has been having a tricky week. He's currently in the middle of a digital war between various Wikipedia editors – some of who are very keen to make clear the full extent of Fred's nepo baby credentials.

It seems the final straw was Fred getting a place on the all-male (but officially gender neutral) Best Artist BRIT shortlist, because since it was announced there have been so many attempts to map out his family tree on his Wiki page that it was temporarily locked.

There's no telling how long any information pertaining to his forebears will stay up (right now it fluctuates throughout the day) but for the sake of providing the info a fixed home: Fred is the son of Charles Anthony Warneford Gibson KC and Mary Ann Frances Morgan, both members of the British peerage. His great-grandfather was Shane O'Neill, 3rd Baron O'Neill; his great-grandmother, Ann, later married both Lord Rothermere (owner of the Daily Mail) and Ian Fleming.

Oh, and his godfather is Brian Eno."

(And a lot of chat about Fred Again, but I am pretty sure that's very unlikely!)

Although I’m skeptical myself, this has come from a regular on who’s been told that Fred Again is headlining Other from somebody who should be fairly in the know. West Holts still seems far more likely to me - a perfect fit, even - but considering the momentum of this guy’s rise that doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon, maybe it’s not such a reach that they just give him the big gig straight off the bat.
