billum
A really brave guy, battling with cancer and then coming back to playing live - saw him a few months ago, as well as at the farm. A true original. Very sad news.

Avalon_Fields
I wasn’t expecting that sad news. I’m old/lucky enough to have seen him with Dr Feelgood in 1975 at the famous Glasgow Apollo, and can still recall the feeling when he burst out with a guitar solo and the manic jig he did. Roxette and Back in the Night, etc. He was a real original. He was also a highlight for me at this year’s Bearded Theory, he still had what it takes. (And wow Norman Watt-Roy on bass confirmed to me he’s one of the greatest bassists ever). Anyone interested, check out the film Oil City Confidential, it’s a classic. We went to see him at our local theatre earlier in the year, so glad I got to see him.

Yes they thought he had pancreatic cancer, but it was in fact Neuroendocrine tumours which are much slower to develop. An operation helped give him some more years, but of course it gets you in the end 😢

He started doing a load of goodbye shows was due to play Glastonbury and then someone said actually they thought they could do an operation that would give him a lot more time. He cancelled Glastonbury, had the operation and a year later was back at Glastonbury I thought effectively cured. In some ways he was very, very lucky that false diagnosis allowed him to see how loved and appreciated he was and he certainly made the most of his extra time. I always think its's a shame that love for people is only expressed when they're dead. Things named after people etc. Why not do it when they're alive? So yes, that was one good thing, he got all the love while he was still alive.

Yep I thought that especially when George Michael died so maligned by the press whilst he was alive and then suddenly all these stories about what a nice man he was.
