    • On the fence: Wouldn't mind seeing him, but will assess options on other stages.

    • Unlikely: Might go if my crew goes/nothing else takes my fancy, but not too fussed

Takes two to tango. I can't be doing with agreeing with everyone all the time. I know that's what young women should do 🤔

Keep posting what you want to post, don’t worry about whether people here agree or not.

You’ll have a great time at the festival, who are you most excited to see?

I did PP Arnold (Front row, The Avalon) instead of Diana Ross. Definitely happy with my choice.

Having said that, I'll be at Elton and not unhappy to be halfway back or wherever. Can't be bothered fighting to the front.

That's where I would've been if I wasn't on shift.

And we were miles back for macca and it was great. One of my favourite things ever (Not just gigs. Things) There was enough of us that it didn't really matter what the rest around us were like but tbf, they were mostly great too.

I was one of the people not at the Rolling Stones. (Shift finished too late to get there before they closed the field). It was eerie how quiet it was everywhere else. It can't have been, but it felt quieter than the Monday and Tuesday before everyone arrives.

If Elton is up against QOTSA it will probably be the biggest/worst clash I've ever experienced at Glasto. I usually get quite lucky in terms of clashes and am normally always set on who I want to see but not if this comes to fruition.

QOTSA are one of my favourite bands of all-time and I would absolutely hate to miss them, especially as this is the beginning of a new tour/era for them so there's still an excitement for me as to what they'll be like and what sort of set they would play. I've seen them dozens of times but never get bored of them.

However, Elton's set, it goes without saying, will be an 'I was there' moment. I really enjoyed his show in Hyde Park last Summer and even though I would expect an almost identical set, with the added Glastonbury gloss, it will inevitably be unforgettable.

I'm already mentally preparing myself for a decision to be made on the day. But there can be no regrets...

If it's a band you normally go and see/have seen - see the other band. The one you haven't seen.

Glasto can be a terrible place to see your favourite bands - as they're the opposite of 'fans' gigs - they're playing easy hits.

Sisco: Yeah all us old people and Elton will stay sat down, doubt we’ll even sing tbf.

Enjoy the empty lively site though…

Neil: if its like fore other mega acts the rest of the site will be dead

And someone backtracked, saying the other mainstages being quiet fell into the remit of the site being dead.

So yeah, another load of twoddle

the twaddle was when you started putting words in others' mouths?

See? What is the point of saying that? This thread is literally called Elton John: Will you be there?

Fine, share with us whether you’re going or not. But there’s no need to be trying to cause arguments by saying things like

Do the people who go to see the McCartneys and Eltons of the festival actually know what the rest of the site is like during headline time??? No, because no one knows what the rest of the site is like because you can't be at the "rest of the site". It's too big, isn't it?

I understand it's nice to seem knowledgeable though 🤷🏻‍♀️

And

It's ok to have music tastes that veer from the lowest common denominator. Elton will be a tickbox exercise for most people, I think.”

If you don’t want to go, great, there’s loads of other stuff to do. But picking fights with those who do want to go is unnecessary.

Yeah agree. I always hope for headliners and big acts that are in the group where I like them, but not enough to pay big money for their own gig. For example, Elton and GNR.

I can see people are having trouble finding a reason why I'm wrong, so they're resorting to making out I'm trying to cause an argument. If you think anything in this thread constitutes a fight then you grew up somewhere very nice. I'll desist though, because I don't want anyone to have to call their therapist because of little old me 😬

Again, no need for some of that, but you got the gist at least

Just seen him in Liverpool. Very disappointing. Got the impression he just couldn’t be arsed singing the hits properly, changing tempo etc.

I realise it’ll be a different show for Glastonbury but I’m not hanging around the pyramid for hours.

Not at all.

Had the tickets for about 4 years and it kept getting postponed and then he played Anfield last summer as a separate show.

Some of it was the acoustics in the arena but for a lot of the singalong songs he kept singing too fast and it just sounded weird.

It has certainly made me open to seeing what else is on.

It was the "just seen in Liverpool"

I watched him at anfield and he was amazing, I was at the front, I had friends in the main stand , KD  and in the kop and they all said the same ....he was brilliant

Oh shit iam so sorry. ..I had no idea he was still playing dates in Liverpool.  Apologies.

He was amazing at anfield, the sound for rolling stones wasn't great the week before but they re-arranged the speakers for Elton and the sound was great.

Obviously excited to see Reg, but the thought of the crowd being as outrageously large as some people are implying does dampen it a touch for me. Not because I'm bad with crowds, more that the thought of being stood halfway to Wells not being able to see a thing doesn't hugely appeal to me. I'm not expecting to just waltz to the barrier for AM, or Lana, but I at least expect to be able to *see* them and feel close enough to be involved, and I don't get that impression with Elton?

Is that reasonable?

Same. Judging by the West Holts poster (which I assume is in day order) Barrington Levy is on WH right before EJ. I definitely will not miss BL under any circumstances so approaching Pyramid from Cider bus side at what will likely be quite last minute I can see myself abandoning trying to see EJ as it will just be too insane trying to get anywhere near.  Need a backstage pass lol.

Yeah this is something weighing on my mind when I posted my thoughts. I was aware people would suggest 'just watch the subs/acts before' but that feels a little bit like I'm wasting half my day there, watching acts that I have no interest in just to get a spot. I know this is just what happens with popular acts, and if I'm miles back, so be it, but I'm not intending to miss acts that excite me just to be able to physically see Elton

Getting a good Elton spot is gonna be an all-day thing. Balls to that. Candi Staton on WH is the place to be then I'll wander over to Elton and see what I can see

I only started to listen to and appreciate Elton John after the movie tbh.

Should be a good show to sober up and relax a bit. I have a 9 hour drive in the hours after. 😳 His recent dodger stadium show is on Disney plus if you want an idea of what its probably going to be like.

Not sure why some are so precious about "legend" acts at this particular festival.

Could be easily seen as just a novelty act at this stage to many really. Pretty irrelevant, especially to a younger crowd.

This is true BUT, Coldplay (x2 - they actually played more rare ones in 2011 than at their own gigs!), Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys and The Killers are bands I've seen at their own gigs but still have Glastonbury as the stand outs for me. U2 playing a hits set was what I wanted so that one also counts.

I agree with the general idea though, there is a REALLY fine line between "seeing a band at Glastonbury" being what makes it special and it being a disappointing set.

I personally think if I went to Liverpool tonight (had a fleeting thought about it) then I'd be really disappointed with Elton, but I also think I'll absolutely love it in front of the Pyramid.

Not sure why folk are too bothered about being far back in the Pyramid field. Sound is excellent, screens are great, and it’s a natural amphitheatre. For the very busy sets, I usually enter from the back via Big Ground, and just move forward until I find a spot I’m comfortable with. True you have to meander through the chair and blanket brigade, but sound and visuals are excellent, and it has the added bonus of allowing a reasonably swift exit at the end. Yes, the idea of being front and centre for Elton sounds appealing, but the effort involved getting to and from that spot, and the risk of finding yourself trapped and claustrophobically challenged for the entire time just isn’t worth it.
