theciderviking
2022...a year in gigs and festivals! Last gig of the year for me tonight, I'm embracing The Lottery Winners at Albert Hall Manchester, and it promises to be one hell of a show. After a few rough years, circumstances changed for the better earlier this year for me and I've managed to get out a lot more than I have for a long time - can honestly say I've not been to a bad show all year, and some have been out of this world good. I really do know how lucky I've been to have so many amazing experiences. Abba Voyage Beans on Toast Bearded Theory Beat-herder Bicep (Live) Billy Bragg (x2) Bluedot Confidence Man (x3) Creamfields Frank Turner Glastonbury Grace Petrie (x3) Guise Kae Tempest (x2) Liverpool Pride Lucy Dacus Lucy Grubb Paul Heaton Pink eye Club Plaid Scuttlebuggs Sigrid Sleeper SOAK Taylor Hawkings Tribute The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican The Flaming Lips The Lottery Winners The Phonics The Weather Station Yossari Baby I know there's been a few more random gigs with up and coming local bands too, but my mind's gone blank. How's everybody else's live music year shaped up? Edited December 22, 2022 by theciderviking

theciderviking
Ooh, now you're asking! Taylor Hawkins Tribute was honestly the best gig I've ever been to, it was an experience like nothing else. Seeing a Beatle play the Pyramid Stage was a bucket list item for me, so Paul's Glasto set is right up there too. Third place is a tie though (sorry, know that's cheating) as there's nothing to choose between Kae, Bicep and The Flips. So there's a top 3/5 for me. 😁 Special shout out goes to Pink Eye Club too who's making massive noise in the London music scene, and who did his first UK tour earlier this year, can't wait to see him on a festival stage sometime soon. 🤞

clasher
It's been a great year for me gig-wise. Had a ton of tickets for festivals/gigs that were postponed, postponed and postponed again, but than most of them happened during summer. My Chemical Romance Idles The Killers (2x) Šumski White Lies Gogol Bordello Royal Blood (2x) Sleaford Mods Deftones A/lpaca The Comet is Coming Roisin Murphy Mordai Kasabian Wolf Alice Thrice Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes Metallica Fever 333 Nothing But Thieves Modest Mouse London Grammar The War on Drugs Muse Pixies Editors Kings of Leon King Gizzard (2x) Grace Cummings Arctic Monkeys Inhaler Tame Impala Porcupine Tree And a ton of more or less local acts. Top three would be The Killers at Mad Cool, Tame Impala at Arena Pula and Porcupine Tree at Gasometer. The second night of King Gizz at Šibenik fortress is an honorable mention. Their first night and MCR in Prague were great performances ruined with shitty sound, and NBT were awesome, just ruined by weird placement at Mad Cool (only 35min, tucked on the third stage in the afternoon, was absolutely packed despite 40+ degrees). Great fun, great memories, and even better - plenty of plans for next year.

Chapple12345
Been very lucky and been to some fantastic events this year in both music and comedy In chronological order I've attended: Katherine Ryan Ed Gamble Echo and the Bunnymen Wolf Alice Flo and Joan Jools Holland Neck of the Woods festival The Killers Madness Kasabian Latitude Festival - my favourites were Fontaines DC, Self Esteem, Foals, Manic Street Preachers and Phoebe Bridgers Harry Hill David O'Doherty Blossoms Already have Florence and the Machine lined up in the new year and Latitude 2023 booked in too, can't wait to see what else I can attend
mike46
Probably been my best year of music to date. Topped out just shy of 100 gigs (one more to go next week) and then a fair few one day festivals too. Hard to pick one favourite, National at APE got me in places, Foals at Brixton was also special. Biggest thing though was the volume of amazing new bands that are coming through, there were some absolute shockers as well but it’s probably the most excited I’ve been for new music for a long time. was also a year I got to see some legends for probably the last time such as the Stones and Macca. All in all, one for the memory books.
BenG92
Two festivals in Primavera and Rock Werchter, day at Leeds, and a few big gigs. Tool x2, Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, Bring me the Horizon, Tame Impala, Beck, The National, Gorillaz, Nick Cave, Jorja Smith, Nick Cave, Tyler the Creator, Pearl Jam, The War on Drugs, Metallica, Bicep, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Royal Blood, and dozens of smaller bands. Despite all those big names, aside from Tool, top shows of the year were Turnstile, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Bicep. Had a whale of a time but this year taught me to not put too much stock in headliners.
JA_Watts
Unsurprisingly, the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Show was the best of what I saw this year. An emotional and unforgettable gig and the perfect tribute to the great man. A toss up between Tool (O2), Arcade Fire (KOKO) and Idles (Brixton) for best 'regular' gig of 2022. Also caught: - Royal Blood / The Amazons (O2) - Muse (Hammersmith) - Travis (Roundhouse) - Billy Talent (Islington Academy) - Elton John (Hyde Park) - Coldplay (Wembley) - Mad Cool Festival (Metallica, Muse, Killers, KOL etc) - The Enemy (Kentish Town) - Alter Bridge (The O2) - Idlewild (Kentish Town) Not a bad year truth be told, albeit a huge GSH that's been overhanging since 2019. Roll on next year...
Supernintendo Chalmers
Less activity this year but some crackers nonetheless. Gigs: Idles @ Victoria Warehouse x 2, Kurupt FM @ Marble Factory, Wolf Alice @ Bristol Academy, The Who @ Royal Albert Hall, Pearl Jam @ British Summertime, The Prodigy @ Brixton Academy x 2, Chemical Brothers @ Field Day, Overmono @ SWX, Corey Taylor @ Swansea Arena, Showhawk Duo @ SWX Club: Glitterbox @ Printworks, Trick @ DC-10 Ibiza, Clockwork Orange @ Cova Santa Ibiza, Glitterbox @ Hi Ibiza, Cafe Mambo on the Beach WSM, Hacienda 40 @ Warehouse Project Festivals: Primavera Sound, Glastonbury Festival, Camp Bestival The unexpected return of the Prodigy was a big thrill for me. A definite highlight. Not much in the books for 2023, so far. Glastonbury Festival, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Prospa, Limp Bizkit and Guns n' Roses are the only events in the diary at the moment. Got my eye on Download, Mad Cool and Life Is Beautiful festivals.

Greenelk
Highlights for me (Glastonbury aside) were The Wannadies in Sweden, Baby Queen, Gabriels, Self Esteem and Suede, but I loved loads of these. Inhaler at the Roundhouse was probably the poorest of the lot. The Taylor Hawkins tribute was as others have said, all sorts of special and incredibly moving. 16 gigs booked for next year, no festivals at this time! Arcade Fire (O2) Baby Queen (Electric Ballroom) Desperate Journalist * 2 (Lafayette & Oslo) Does It Offend You Yeah? maelzoid
For me, one of the best years ever for live music. Part of this is due to the quiet two years due to the pandemic. Also been an expensive year.... But worth it. Chronologically... Wolf Alice Gaz Combes Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets Muse Tool Glastonbury Guns N' Roses Pearl Jam (2 shows) St Paul & The Broken Bones Phish (3 shows) Coldplay Porcupine Tree Charlotte Church's Pop Dungeon Not a single disappointment among that lot. I do want to make more of an effort to see acts in smaller venues next year though.
charlierc
As a sequence, I got this... Chvrches (Birmingham O2) Royal Blood (Birmingham NIA) Vaccines (Aylesbury) My Chemical Romance (Milton Keynes) The Killers (Coventry) Green Day/FOB/Weezer (London Olympic Stadium) Haim (London O2) Franz Ferdinand (Ally Pally) Biffy Clyro (Birmingham NEC) Plus 2/3 stand-up shows, 2 TV show recordings and the like. I also had tickets to Wolf Alice but couldn't go due to a storm cancelling all trains and coaches, and had tickets to Foals but couldn't go after multiple problems. Saying that, if I went to all shows I even just considered, I might have genuinely gone to at least 25+ gigs this year. I'm happy enough, mind. I only saw one show in 2021 due to a discomfort with managing a certain crowd anxiety in the covid age. But I'm happy this is a start. Fingers crossed 2023 produces a few more great shows thrown into the bargain.
