Hugh Jass II
Interesting as well that for all of the "indie rock is dead" talk four out of the top five, and six of the top ten, are mainly lads and ladettes with guitars. Quite a few of the pop darlings of this forum - Harry Styles, Beyonce, Adele, etc performed pretty poorly. Still shocked at how badly Dry Cleaning did. Would have been impressive if Adele did well considering she didn’t release an album this year.

My mistake, thought 30 came out at the start of this year, when it was actually the end of 2021.

kalifire
The more time I spend with the new Simz release, the more I wonder whether she would have made it into my top 5 if it had been released a little earlier. It’s very good. Edited January 4, 2023 by kalifire

It’s very good. Same for me and also SZA. Just didn't have enough time to let them digest. I didn't actually put BCNR in my eFests list and then seeing it win remembered it was a 2022 release. I am one of those Lizzo fans, as in overall and live, but indeed album 2 was just not in my top 5. Doesn't mean she isn't on my top 5 artists I want to see in June. If she is at Glastonbury she'll be one of my must see's.

I'm not in a great year of music picking just a top 5 is pretty tricky. The album was fine but nothing startling or original and very close to their last release which may have actually gone against them. The number of albums picked says a lot about how good a year it was. I also didn't pay too much attention to who I put in what position in my top they are all pretty equal for me but the scoring obviously means they are not. We needed a scoring system to rank them, otherwise it's just a list of almost 200 albums people liked. I demanded a competitive process dammit! Yep not quibbling about the methodology just stating from my personal experience that my top 5 was closer than ever so me putting 1 at number 1 and 1 at number 5 was definitely not me saying I thought that my number 1 was 5 times better but that's inevitably the result of the scoring system.
