Paid my balance about 4:30 yesterday as it’s a great place but no more early bird tickets for me from now on.  Really hoping for some more high profile additions but not expecting them.

I'm with you on this. I'm a veteran EOTR, been every year since 2008, I used to go in general camping on my own with a group of mates, but now go with my wife and son and that expanded group of mates, we are in the campervan field these days, so a dedicated loyal income stream for the festival.

We normally buy early birds, but missed that and bought in Tier One for 2023.

The more I look at the bill the more underwhelmed I become.  I see Tier 4 tickets are still on sale at £235, I honestly think EOTR will struggle to sell out this year. It is seriously expensive for a very niche line-up. My feeling is that the 'bring as much booze as you like' policy is the thing that keeps a lot of goodwill going, many people object to 7 quid a pint at the more corporate-themed festivals.

Some of our fellow EOTR-ers are going to Bearded Theory this coming weekend. By comparison that is £187.50 for a really impressive line-up and that still hasn't sold out three days from it starting.  I think the cost of living crisis is going to have a massive impact on festivals - our mortgage deal has just renewed, massive hike in repayments, in hindsight I would have sacked off EOTR this year as a luxury we can't really afford. I'm only hanging in there because I have this feeling that Pulp are going to be revealed as a late headline addition which will bring a wave of ticket sales in.

What? There's no way this is going to happen. Why would you advertise a set of headliners for six months, to the extent that you're having to apologise for someone else who should have headlined but won't be, and then suddenly announce otherwise? And Pulp clearly don't have embargos in place given how much they've already been announced for.

Some people really do seem to be under the impression that the festival has gone out of its way to knowingly rip them off.

Are people really under that impression. I thought it was more to do with a few people being a bit underwhelmed by the line up

My wording may have been a bit strong but I do get the impression (and I don't just mean from here) that people think Simon set out to fleece people buying early birds, or just tickets at that price, by not delivering the strength of headliners they wanted. But EOTR will most likely sell out or at least they're confident of doing so, they wouldn't sell out until July or August in pre-Covid years anyway and their social media doesn't seem to be pressing for sales at the moment.

Would it be too much to expect Gabriels, Ezra Collective (both in Bristol on the Friday) & Stornoway (in Birmingham)?

Other two are doubtful but given last year's pullout I'd be really surprised if Gabriels are in the country and don't play, it'd feel like EOTR were wrongfooted somehow by their being over here (they've also just been added to APE the week before, which they were also going to play last year)  Similarly it's odd that Jeffrey Lewis is in the country (at Manc Psych) if he's not there. But as I say, there's now so few places left to fill compared to last year that it might end up coming down to whether anyone pulls out.

Jeffrey Lewis definitely not playing as I asked him when I saw him in Rochester a couple of weeks ago.

Ooooh, did. you go to that? How was it? Desperately wanted to go but was the day of the train strikes so couldn't get there. Saw him in Margate a few days earlier. Did one of the best versions of Roll Bus Roll I've ever seen him do.

Yeah, it was lovely. Unusual for me to actually get a gig I can walk to (albeit it taking me an hour each way). We got Roll Bus Roll too, along with Sad Screaming Old Man and short films for The Great Gatsby, History of Communism and his "After Dark" porno.

He also complemented me on my Ramsgate Music Hall t-shirt and said he plans to get back there on the next tour.

I'm off to Margate tonight for Anna B Savage
