Camping Plans for 2024

Ohhh thanks for the heads up! I need to remember that regardless, we we lucky enough to bag tickets and we'll be sleeping somewhere! 🙂

2005 we arrived Weds mid afternoon and pitched up in Kidney Mead where it was 3/4 empty! 😄

yeah most likely will do, but travelling from Ireland so will have to get them in Bristol. Between tent, sleeping bag, drink, bag etc its a lot to carry in so just would have been handier getting in, getting a spot and then going to get the tent etc

What you gonna do with them when the festival is over? Sounds like taking them on the plane is too difficult (I'm assuming this is the case). 

 

I'm sure you will but I'm gonna say it anyway... If my assumption is correct please do make plans to pass your tent on to someone rather than leave it.

 

If my assumption is wrong please also call me out on it!

Any reccomendtions about where to go would be good, as we're wanting to go soemwhere new this year.  We're going to be driving down and arriving sometime on the Wednesday afternoon (Gate B I guess?), at least after the intial rush on the morning anyway. We are looking to get fairly close to the hospitality camping (at least not a massive walk). Ideally somewhere which is in little danger of flooding (?).

Going to be camping for the first time in Pennards. Normally camp in Paines but my wife wants to nearer the railway track because her legs are wrecked. I was thinking camping near the path that runs alongside the healing fields. Is that an OK spot. I know it will be livelier than Paines.

It's central but be aware that you're going to have foot traffic going past your tent for 24 hours of the day for all five days.

Arriving Thursday and staying off site. I assume there will be next to no queue around 1pm Thurs? And the same for all our other re-entries that week...

 

Polar opposite from the usual departure Tuesday 11pm/In the queue for 4am.

Agreed. That was my favourite spot before the wife and campervans.

Perfect for getting around site and socialising, not so good if you want to sleep or worry about risks (my wife worried about folk falling into the tent or setting fire to it with discarded cigarettes).

The crossroads between Pennards and The Glade can also be crazy busy, that would put me off a little bit...

definitely a busy spot and it fills up fast, but great location wise

We’ve camped there the past two years, it’s definitely not completely peaceful but by no means a war zone like other equivalent campsites at other festivals. 

The location more than makes up for it.

The only thing is you need to be in and setup by lunch time on the Wednesday at the latest otherwise you’ll be very cosy with another campsite!

We're staying at Holt Farm this year (as a bit of a treat)..... heading down from Yorkshire on the Wednesday morning to arrive (hopefully early afternoon).

 

I know it'll be impossible to just drive down and expect no traffic etc..... but, would it just be as well to travel down through Shepton Mallet and brave the traffic, or, take a swing around anticlockwise and travel from the west via Wells -  Glastonbury itself?

I camped in Paines Ground last year, and it was pretty full by Weds afternoon....could have probably found space in isolation for a tent on its own if you looked hard enough.

 

Not sure on South Park 2.

We arrived at SP2 last year circa 17:00 and was plenty of room for two decent sized tents next one another.

Not sure about SP2, I stayed in SP1 last year. Got there about 7pm on the Wednesday and there was plenty of space

I think from recollection we went back out to the car around 1.30-2pm.  It was pretty full by the time we got back at 3.30pm ish.

You need to be west side, so depending on which way you are travelling down you need to come through Glastonbury and not Shepton Mallet
