Hmm, I still don't see it as being as any different really.

There's been problems and changes to the poster before - https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/apr/26/tiny-fonts-and-big-egos-the-nasty-politics-of-festival-lineup-orders

And the WH headliners have been on the wane the last few additions, apparently down to money spent on huge acts from the US being put on a smaller stage, and they're now more likely to be put on a bigger stage so the cost per audience size ratio is better.

WizKid following Meghan the Stallion... GnR being one of the biggest touring bands around... feel like there's a lot of mild stuff there to call it weird or strange.

Woodsies name change seemed inevitable, so too did Cinemarmeggeddon's trial ending...

Not sure about missing out on significant touring artists or the later build time, but there's been speculation on this website for decades of artists missing out despite them being in the country or having a Glastonbury shaped hole etc. Don't see that as weird either myself.

Also, Mik Artistik missing out could just be a private issue and nothing to do with the festival.

Arcadia is a private company and I'm guessing just want to make money, going to Qatar, it's their decision, nothing to do with Glasto.

Budget constraints obv because of the cost of living and inflation, but that's a global problem from the US to Germany, nothing different there really aside from Glasto have to live within their means, so to say.

I don't disagree with much of what you're saying, I guess I was looking for evidence to support my feeling. Maybe it's just a feeling? I don't know. It just feels different this time.

I would say though, there's definitely more than just a business-to-business link between Arcadia and the festival (the very fact that the initial posters even mentioned the festival by name). Without GFL's investment, there probably wouldn't even be an Arcadia. For the festival to not even address the Spider's trip over there could be deemed by some as a bit of a PR miss. I'm not sure I have an opinion on it either way, to claim it as morally wrong would be hypocritical of me as I watched a fair few games from that tournament. I guess my wider point was that the story caused controversy and was in many quarters construed as being in contradiction to the festival's values. Add that to the other aspects I've mentioned and it makes for a more complicated run-in.

The CoL and everything has definitely had an impact, though I'm hoping that it's just a one off. That said, I am preparing myself for Glastonbury to be a more reserved experience as far as spectacle goes.

I said in the carhenge thread that I'll take a whelming year of Glastonbury if it helps secure it's future because fundamentally, the magic of the place will still be there, the people who make the fesitval what it is will still be there, there's still some of the biggest acts around playing and although it may be one of the weaker lineups this year, there's still a fair few diamonds in the rough.

In terms of line up, I'd say it's about on par or stronger than last year so far. Arguably having two heritage acts and the Arctics trumps Billie/Kendrick and Macca.

WH looks a lot stronger this year as well.

Maybe it seems a lot of changes happening at once, WG, Cinemarmeggeddon, the end of Mil appearing - altho after he was announced on Croissant Neuf, I'm guessing there must be a personal issue for not attending now?

As far as Arcadia is concerned, I followed the discussion before the world cup and thought people had said they're a separate entity and can make their own decisions. If there's a greater connection than thought the it's odd they would also let organisers of the fan zones namedrop Glasto, altho I don't know if GFL could do much about that in Qatar... I'm not too well-versed in the Arcadia-Qatar debacle really, is what I'm saying 😁

Hang on, have you mixed them up? I'm on the third track of the second one and everything sounds more Ridey than I remember the first record being.

I missed last year's Andy Bell album, but he's also released solo electronica stuff as Glok in 2021

Not quite a self-confirm, but Bombay Bicycle Club have announced a festival warm up show on June 14th on Twitter, someone has replied "Be great to get warmed up for the Glastonbury set" ... and they've replied "That would be nice".

Would be a cracking addition to the line up, fingers crossed!
