Dream Sponsor at Glasto

disclaimer - i know people hate sponsors (i generally do too) but just thought this up and wanted to post it anyway

I did APE last year which is probably the most corporate place there is and a friend mentioned to me the other day about how it was great we were getting free cans of coke all day and also like the water bottles from amex (great drink smuggling pouches, cheers APE!). It was pretty handy - people were also winning tickets from the crypto sponsor (fuck crypto but worth mentioning), free clothes from coke - my mate won this hideous bomber jacket lol and vape/nicotine snus places (also fuck that).

So the question I ask i guess is what sponsor would you like to see at glasto offering their stuff for free / just a stall? Not actually too sure what I want the most but mind is currently set on a 24 hour greggs

co-op not handy?

I've only been weekend festivals since 2018 and have almost always had one where we've been, at boardmasters they didn't have one and it was a pain once used to it haha

Verdant and Pressure Drop (two of my favourite breweries) run a bar together in Hackney, and it’s a right belter of a place with consistently excellent beer. So I want them to sponsor and supply the bars with all their magnificent tipples 👍

I don’t think co-op is a sponsor tbh, rather a trader - and an ethical one too, owned by its members and isn’t branded as co-op at glasto.

Other than that they have their media partners and ee in return for the comms infrastructure. And beers.

It is branded as a co-op, but the first one from Rochdale in 1844 instead of the modern stores. The logo is there but it's quite cleverly incorporated into the branding.

It’s just called 31 Toad Lane isn’t it? I can’t see any co-op branding apart from the products on sale.6DE8DC67-29B3-492A-8181-03119558D199.webp.e67d32c30ef3349a652e19b5c8abe8de.webp

I was thinking about this image with the logo in it. But it does seem like they replaced it between the press shots and opening.

When I say branding I'm talking about the whole package. The whole store is in their house font and colour scheme, it doesn't have the co-op sign but you definitely know it's a co-op. The logos are all over the products and staff uniforms.

Edit- did some twitter sleuthing and got images of the 2022 store for reference!

Nope.

Free stuff is never really free, we pay for it one way or another.

I’ve been attending festivals since 2000 and Glastonbury is a welcome break from the over commercialisation of its piers.

Glastonbury would lose a piece of its identity if started bringing in big brands…. ESPECIALLY drink brands.

Already lost some when they partnered with a telcom and a tv network.

And is Glasto on Sea the least commercialized pier of them?

Partnering with the British Broadcasting Corporation enables them to pay acts much less than Coachella and ensures a steady stream of international artists waiting in line.

And EE enables us to communicate with each other!

Well I for one didn’t realise it was a co-op the first few times I walked past it

The Yeo Valley thing was good for the cotton bags, I still have loads and they get lots of use. As an EE customer, I appreciate the onsite network, despite those who yearn for a data free festival.

I don't think companies giving away free cans/bottles/snacks is a good thing and I doubt it'll happen. Whenever I've seen this before it really just creates a massive waste issue. (I remember years ago when Red Bull were new, they used to come to events and literally give out slabs of cans of drink - incredible, looking back).
