I'm a bit ashamed to say I've never seen the sun rise at Glastonbury in the 6 that I've done. Poor show really, but by 2/3am I'm flagging massively. Don't indulge in stimulants so I rely on caffeine and adrenaline to combat the pull to bed that alcohol can bring.

Maybe this year I'll make it through the night on one occasion with a little prep.

Does anyone here nap? Last year I took little 15 minute snoozes on a few occasions and they were wonderful. Better still when a tent venue becomes a nap shack for lots of people. There was a tent in the green fields one year which seemed to be set up for people who fancied a few minutes of shut eye. Folk would arrive, crash, then a few minutes later up and move on.

I did in 2019 on Saturday, the heat had really gotten to me the day before and that day. After Lizzo, I had something to eat and went back to the tent and slept for a good 45 minutes maybe an hour. Woke up and then got ready to go and watch Chemical Brothers. Was probably the best choice as I was fine for the rest of the night.

bloody love a late afternoon nap.  A quick 15-30 minutes inbetween bands on the pyramid or  a quiet corner in a tent can be a life saver.

Going back to the tent to have a nap is risky though - too high a chance of it turning into a proper sleep if you're especially ruined!

I had a nap in the middle of John Peel on my own last year and it was risky business. Someone understandably thought I had passed out from drugs (which I don't do) but no, I'd just walked 50,000 steps on Thursday

50,000 steps! For real???

That's around 20 miles 😲

I did 30,000 on Thurs and think that was my highest day of the entire year....

It was around 47k! Although that does include after midnight on Wednesday night, which was heavy. It was only my second Glastonbury so I wanted to see as much as I could of the site before the music started on Friday - I've made better calls!

I went back to the tent for a nap on Saturday afternoon once and woke up about midnight completely confused and then very grumpy with my partner at the time for not waking me up, missed a load of bands I wanted to see. Gutted.

  • 1 year later...

My last visit to the farm was starting on the session at 7am wed and sleep on average 5 am ish then up at 8am latest. I was a Baker back then so my sleep cycle was all over the place!

I consumed so much of everything it's almost shameful how uncontrolled I was.

This time I'll have a toddler with me so definitely bed before 1 and up at 7 I imagine, unless he loves the motorhome experience ( please do)

I think I'll have one big night, see what night Carl Cox or good old Norman is on.

After the IMO shocking admissions from some posters, who are only in their 40’s, that they can’t even manage 2am (you need to change your dealer). I thought I’d resurrect this topic

‘24 was my first G at age of 50 and I was in as a bar volunteer. Arr. Tuesday straight into bar crawl. Had Wednesday am bar briefing ☀️🤢Thursday morning fun run, morning shifts on the Saturday and Sunday. Managed 23.5 hours kip over 6 nights, including none Sun-Mon. Also saw dawn on Sun morning before my final 3 hours of sleep! Hit 50k+ steps on 2 or 3 days.
All done on copious quantities of Brooklyn beers or similar. Loved

E V E R Y second of it.

hope this restores some faith in stamina of efesters!

Fair play, folks with kids are excused

My little sister is coming to her first Glastonbury, as is her partner and my partner, I'm definitely going to be witnessing some fun times.

My little sister is just entering her prime indulging phase too. Hello SE corner.

I'm a lightweight and don't mind admitting it.  I've seen a few dawns at Glastonbury, but most nights I have to confess that I'm back to camp after the headliners and apart from a bit of a chat with campmates I'm off to bed not long after.  I stayed out til about 2am on the Saturday this year, but apart from that I was more keen on a decent night's kip than getting on it.

I like to be back at my tent to sleep at around 2am nowadays. I'm not into drugs and not a big drinker but did used to like staying up till late discovering things and sometimes watching the sunrise. Now I like to get up around 8.30am, leave the tent about 10am, spend all day watching bands etc before bedding down for the night at 2. Doing this keeps my energy going over the five days.

it sort of depends on my shifs - I usually get the Saturday night shift so for the last 5 years I get up at about 5:30 Saturday morning - Shift starts at 11pm ends at 7am on Sunday and then I power through to 1 or 2 Monday morning 0 then up at 6 - load all my gear int he car and off site by 7:45 in to Maccy D's in Street for breakfast - home in an the bath by 9 am Monday
