There's still a decent selection to choose from.

(Them agreeing to do it is another matter, of course)

but some of "the people's" choices are very shit, like rod stewart.

It would be fun too! Maybe next year when Elton’s not around.

Rod probably not for me but he definitely fits the slot and would have a bigger turnout than Cat i reckon who's only at 35% on our  poll of people with high musical knowledge .... previous legends have been way higher

Flash Poll: What will happen when Cat gets to the high bit in Father and Son?

a: He'll sing it!
b: He'll sing it... but a bit lower!
😄 Someone else will come out and sing it!

He's still got it so option A

Haha. Neil hate to remind you, but,  Bowie. We've all done it .

True, but that looks worse in hindsight than it did at the time, Bowie was renounced for not playing the hits, and I thought he'd be dull, i also thought that I'd be seeing him at titp.

Oh I hear you, I was somewhere else aswell, off me chops. It was Bowie, and we should have been there, hits or not. We live and learn. If you do go I hope you get a good spot for Yusuf, could be very special. Hoping for a smaller crowd myself than recent Legends slots.

You can't complain about the output of a man with guitar and  then say you'll watch men with guitars instead.

Mmmmm, that's a good point!! I have nothing against the Cat. I just think a headline spot in Avalon or Acoustic would been a better and more suitable stage. I hope I'm proved wrong and I think the Cat is a great scoop for Glastonbury, but sadly I feel will be a pretty dull 'legend'. However if he decides to play an entire set of Proclaimers songs then I'll be at the front singing along and punching the air for the entire set!

Better to have been a Kris Kristofferson Leonard Cohen of Burt Bacharachy Crosby Stills & Nashes sort of slot for Yusuf.

Yep agree. Some of my mates have already bought their 70's disco outfits, big wigs and novelty sunglasses. They were hoping to spend the entire 'legend' spot dancing, singing and partying. Fat chance of that now!

wouldn't cope with the numbers, and thats why the pyramid is the suitable slot.

reckon it might be a better tv watch than in the field.

what makes you say that? not expecting his live performance to be up to scratch anymore, or general crowd / atmosphere / sound mix?

As I've said before, it could easily go a bit Paul Simon. What if he decides to do mostly new stuff?

I think much of the debate centres on how you define legend. And, as always, those definitions are determined by which side of the Atlantic you’re on.

Oxford English Dictionary
an extremely famous person, especially in a particular field.

Merriam Webster
a person that inspires legends

It seems to me the British definition is far more based on their own merit, on their own expertise. With the emphasis on their field, the legend status comes from them. The American definition implies an element of mythologising and that status is bestowed upon 'the legend' by a third party.

One definition possibly sees a Kylie fit the narrative, the other definition maybe a little more Cat

What? I get that language evolves, but I thought the proper British use of the word legend was along the lines of King Arthur or Robin Hood : Possibly based in fact, possibly mythology.

I guess in a few hundred years people may be debating whether Elvis was real?

Think seeing him maybe weather dependent.  Mrs Q is a yes by the way. Me, Sunny Sunday will be great. Pissing it down, probably somewhere else.

Stop being such a Darren Downer. NFRNFC.

But fair point.

Who's at Acoustic or Woodsies? What's the run in The Cabaret Tent like?

It was a little bit here's the new stuff, Earthling skewed. Always thought The Dame was one of the few that could have returned and done another couple of hours without repeating a tune. Plus I grew to love Earthling a lot later.

I offered a colleague a lot of money that year for a ticket. Think I may have even joked, "What's your price", but they knew what they had. That they had no intention at all of seeing Bowie was rubbing salt in.

The Jaws quote but replace the word boat with the word tent.

I'm sure he'll bring out the big guns.  A bigger puzzle is whether or not he'll deploy some of his religious songwriting.

This was on the setlist of his last gig:

I THINK HE MIGHT SEE RELIGIOUS SONGS AS AN OBLIGATION.
