Last year I was in bed by 10:30pm on the Wednesday due to sleep deprivation from setting off so early that morning. I've really never been that bothered by the Wednesday anyway - always been the worst day for me.

This year we are going by coach on Thursday, hopefully getting some mates to set up tents and being fresher to have four big days and 6am finishes in a row

My 12 year old daughter has an unavoidable school event to attend on the Wednesday evening so the two us won't get there til Thursday morning at the earliest.  I wouldn't be so bothered if it was just me but as there's a child in tow I'm concerned about us getting a camping spot appropriate for her and not ending up pitched in the middle of some coked up chavs.

Anyone else been in the same been in the same predicament? Looking for some reassurance.

I was wondering, is it just 'coked up chavs' that would be an issue for you? Surely during the course of the festival, your daughter will see a plethora of drug deranged people? What would be the difference?

Actually, I think I can see now. You don't mind her witnessing such things (hard to stop that one anyway, I'd say), it's just that you would rather camp / live in a quieter, less potentially moody environment. The penny has dropped - finally! I haven't got kids, so don't always think about responsibilities. In fact, I try not to think of those.

What time is that lol about 10pm Tuesday night? 😂😂

I arrived at about 4am in 2017 and was in a huge queue and it still took 4 to 5 hours to get in.

Love it though 💪

Which gate did you arrive at? That was 4:30am on Wednesday. Queue for 3.5-4 hours, with multiple benefits. Wouldn’t have it any other way on the Wednesday.

The only time I ever got the coach to arrive early Wednesday morning we got there about 5:30am and there were less than 100 people in front of us in the queue.  I used to do the overnight thing, but as I've got older it's had more of an impact on my ability to get a decent day in on the Wednesday and I've moved to arriving later.  2017 (which was a shitshow for many who arrived earlier) we rocked up about 3:30pm at Bath and West to get straight on an empty, air conditioned posh coach to the site, got off and straight through the gate.  We were pitched by 4pm and pissed by 5.

I'm still in two minds about whether I'm going this year, for various reasons, but if I do then I'll probably arrive either late Wednesday or lunchtime Thursday.  For me the worst thing about Glastonbury is getting in and pitched, then getting packed up and offsite, either can be beset with any kind of drama that might add hours to your trek.  I'd rather skip the early doors stuff now, I'm well past my best.

Wednesday is a great day, if you're in early. To do that most years you have to be there at shit oclock. Basically missing a nights kip. And even then its not a guarantee.

Was still getting texts from mates last year in the queue at 3pm and they were on site at 8am. Was 7/8pm by the time they were setup and out for a booze.

I always arrive at the festival on the Wednesday by train around 11am and am camped up by around 12/12:30pm. I always find the Wednesday a very relaxing day of walking about, eating, having a drink, seeing the sights and starting to get a build up to the fun days ahead.

The one year I arrived on the Thursday morning we ended up camping in Bushy just as we came in through gate D.

Was fairly quiet and would have no hesitations about camping there with kids. Was a bit of a trek to get anywhere but then imagine that'll be the case for anywhere with space left on the Thursday.

Wednesday is still my preferred arrival day but do remember it being really nice walking straight through the gates on the Thursday with no queue!

Just because were coked up doesn't make us chavs 😂

I'd rather the "coked up chavs" than some stuck up oldtimer

Depends what gate you arrive at, I think. Getting to PGA just before the coaches start arriving is the sweet spot. I can grab a few hours kip beforehand (admittedly less than usual) be on site by half four, and I'm set up by 9am. I'm sleepy but that gives the whole thing a lovely dreamy quality. Waking up from a nap late morning and realising it's real and is actually happening is second to none.
