What exactly is “Americana”? Is it what we used to call MOR?

No not MOR. AI say it the best -

A genre of music that combines elements of various American music styles, such as country, blues, folk, bluegrass, and roots rock. The term was coined in the 1990s to describe the music of bands like Uncle Tupelo and Whiskeytown

Had thought Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman would have been good shouts this year as they are in the UK in June and playing some European festivals…but now seem to be back at festivals in the US a few days before Glasto, so might unfortunately rule them both out. Maybe it’s just a quick trip back to the states as MJ at least has more European festivals later in the summer, but it looks tight for Glasto. Pity, recent albums from both are cracking.

I don't think they've publicly confirmed anything. But from the rumblings I wouldn't expect them back any time soon.

whats the rumblings - i thought they managed to sell out in the years since covid?

Apologies for the vagueness, trying to find a way to phrase this that I'm comfortable with -

I've not heard anything regarding specifics (such as money) as to why it would or wouldn't continue, just that plans to run again don't appear to be in place (at this point). Still time for things to change, but not sure they will.

No worries, any info is better than none, so thanks. That is a shame if so, its one i would have liked to have a go at in the fallow year.

Calexico, as a stripped back trio, are touring Europe Feb-April 2025, if we get some UK dates beyond that we may have a chance of Glastonbury. I think their last appearance was 2013. I’d rate them as my favourite Americana act, alongside Lucinda Williams & Emmylou Harris.

Great in 2013, very small crowd as were up against The Stones, but right choice for me!

A Difficult Decision for Black Deer Festival 2025

To our Black Deer Festival community

Thank you for patiently waiting for news regarding Black Deer Festival 2025.

We have been busy behind the scenes reflecting on the past seven years and having some difficult conversations as we look to the future.

It is with a heavy heart that Black Deer Festival announces today that after seven wonderful years, its 2025 edition is postponed so we can prepare for our return as a Festival in 2026. Pressure on independent festivals in the current climate has proved a huge challenge over the past two years and as such, we have come to this difficult decision. We have done everything we can and explored all avenues to try and make this work, but right now it is simply not feasible.

Black Deer Radio and Black Deer Live are alive and well. We’d love you to tune in, and to see you at the many gigs taking place around the country, as we continue to celebrate all things Americana together.

Please follow us for future news as we look to the future. Together, we’ll keep the spirit of Americana alive.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you.
