badtaste1983
Has anyone done Palp festival in Switzerland before? I’m playing with the idea of coming from Australia for it - but can’t work out how to navigate it! the gigs seem far off the beaten track, does everyone stay out there for a whole week? Is there anything to do during the day? How do you get to the gigs from your (maybe far away) hotel? any info much appreciated as the website isn’t a lot of help 🤔🤔

Honestly never been there but I know the festival and it's very fascinating to me. For what I know, it is more like a series of events (usually 3 bands playing per day) that take place all the summer long in the middle of Swiss Mountains, rather than a proper festival. During August, there's something like 10 days when concerts happen almost every day on a small mountain spot. Last year there were some free public transports (a cabin and a bus if I remember well) from Le Chable, Val des Bagnes (you can spot it on Google Maps), but they also say that the concerts spot is reachable by walk (I believe you have to be a good mountain walker to do that, but it's surely not impossible). I saw that, for this year's edition, they haven't put transport infos already, but they surely will soon. I don't think the festival can sell out and it doesn't attract many people from abroad, but I understand you have to book flights so maybe can ask them infos on social networks or via email. Anyways. It surely is a very cool thing to do, but only if you like and are a bit familiar with mountains and mountain life. I wouldn't expect very much to do during the day, linked to the festival. You can maybe go trekking a bit, visiting mountain villages and spots, go eating around, go to sleep early. Depending on where you'll sleep, expect to spend some time to reach the concert spot... Mountain timings aren't ever quick. My last tip is that, for us living in Italy, Switzerland is expensive and I don't think I could ever afford the whole 10 days thing. Let us know your experience if you go, I'm curious.
