Opening queues at Ped Gate B?

from Love fields were do you join the queue. At the gate itself or do you need to walk up the hill to join the back?

Outside gate C is a road.  On the other side of the road is a gate.   Love Fields and the general queue merge at this gate normally.

This is the thing - if its previously been the quietest gate then through forums like these, people find that out and spread the word that its the quietest - then it gets rammed, and everyone waits ages while gate C is much quieter than usual . . . then everyone hears about gate C being quiet and goes there instead, and it gets busier while gate B cools down and becomes nice and quiet. Gate tennis!

Thing is, there's never any solid info - always lots of anecdotes for and against all gates each year, plus you don't know if they've improved the process the following year, or if some idiot in charge of a small area is going to be fucking things up for some people.

I've had several nightmares trying to get through B, and it is well known that you have 10+ fields of caravans all going through C.  That's why I reckon the order that they fill the car parks is very important for when people start hitting each gate.  Car parks 1-5, which I suspect they fill first, are relatively straight forward in terms of position to get to gate B.  Whereas for carparks 6-11 gate C looks more sensible, but actually you have a massive extra trek through the campervan fields and actually they're not really near any gate (similar to outer reaches of Orange car parks on the west, but maybe worse?).

From east carparks then heading north along Pylle Road ie Blue Route to where it joins Cockmill Lane and PGB is probably your best choice.  You could also head down to PGC and then walk north up Cockmill Lane until you get to PGB but you might find it difficult to get down to PGC because of the queuing for PGC stretching up Hill of Death.

Unless i've got the wrong end of the stick as to what you're trying to show here, the route drawn over this map is from Campervans East to PGB not the east car parks - the western edge of these is shown in purple in the top right corner of the map. There are car parks past the CV fields to the right of the map but i'd be surprised if they're filling those on Tuesday overnight into Weds as they're the way-out ones. On Tuesday/early Weds i'd have thought you'd be better off walking via the purple fields numbered 1, 4 and 5 on the map above to PGB.

Yup same principle....head to Pylle Road (Blue Route) and walk North to Cockmill Lane and PGB.

We we're planning on staying at the In-Laws on Tuesday Evening and it looks as though we'll be pushed to the West Side arriving by car from Wiltshire so this is all useful information for entering via Gate B! 🤯...having never been before, we were thinking of arriving at the site early morning on Wednesday but having seen pictures of the queues, we might need a re-think!

Some of the car parks feeding Gate B were the worst for exit on Monday last year - East 2 was particularly bad (got to car 10.30am, didn't make it out onto tarmac until 4.45pm). One of the reasons for us going Worthy View this year was to avoid some of those car park issues.

If you plan your route you can usually pick which side of the festival you arrive at.  Don't worry too much about the pictures - there are similar pictures for all the gates, they all have zigzag fencing put up to manage things and people will be queued overnight at all of them.  Main thing I'd say is to have a think about where you actually want to camp, and let that decide how early you want to arrive / which side of the festival you want to arrive at.

Edit

Guide to all the different camp sites, not too much change one year to the next

and map of where they all are, especially note where the carparks are in relation to the gates A-D, and how much further the campsite is from there - some VERY long walks available

I always find with leaving on the Monday, either leave really early (being back at your car by 8am) or leave it really late (leave 2-3pm) anything in-between results in hours trying to get out.

Did there used to be an extra road out of the festival on the East side?  I feel like there was an extra brown route or something, possible forking off out towards the A-road round about opposite car park 6.  I think they were avoiding opening the up a few years ago, it wasn't obvious at least, but you could drive down it - but I feel maybe more recently it's been removed...  (could just check an older map 🙂)

Easy for them to gradually fill up carparks over the course of Tuesday, but need proper thought about how to release people back onto the roads on Monday - I remember that being a good thing about being in the arse end of the orange car parks - they had routes out onto smaller roads which are out of bounds before the festival.

not sure tbh, last time I drove to the festival was 2017!

Pretty sure they funnelled us out onto the A37 and I drove towards Frome so I could eventually get onto the M4.....once we were out of the festival traffic we stopped for some breakfast then did the remainder of the journey.  I was home (in Oxford) by 11am from recollection.

Brown Route.  Doesn't seem to be mentioned on any maps before or after 2014.  I think it was 2017 that our car wouldn't start (Sunday after headliners) and local AA guy said that this route was open and it worked great - think we tried it again in 2019 (only a vague memory) and we had to back up or turn around, tails between our legs...

Amazing...thanks for all of this...it's looking like it's time for us to start planning properly now! Getting really excited! 🥳
