AM DILL DANDIND?

I've not been paying any attention to the line up as I didn't get tickets again.. until Sunday that is!

Anyway now sat up and started paying attention.

I like a lot of Elton's work and was quite happy when I saw his name on the line up, but then I remembered that terrible clip of him from lockdown... I don't often watch Pyramid Headliners it gets far too busy round there for me and the sound is never what you hope for. But... I could really be tempted by the Rocket man himself, but genuinley am worried it'll be two hours of him unable to annunciate.

Obviously am well aware I can leave and go and see anything else I want, but can someone convince me Elton is worth the effort?

As far as I understand Efests official opinion is that the quality of the vocals is irrelevant as it's effectively a huge karaoke session.

I'll be else where regardless.

That makes it sound far worse to me, but Mrs SprockRock will probably be up for it even more.

It will be a headline set that’s discussed for years to come. One for the ages.

Ignore Skip, he doesn’t like Elton and has watched 3 pyramid headliners in total over his 769 Glastonbury’s.

Fair play Stuie, that made me chuckle

Tbf I'm more likely to see him if it IS like his lockdown performance. Watched that clip hundreds of times, yet never watch any other clip of Elton John ever. It was like Vic Reeves' pub singer performances from Shooting Stars. Imagine if he brought him out for a duet! Was going to avoid this but looking forward to him now...

I remember going to see Flaming Lips in The Park in 2017… my daughter and I pissed as newts, singing at the top of our voices and dancing like crazy things…

on the way out after my daughter said “that was brilliant Dad… although, it would have been perfect if Wayne’s annunciation was a bit better…”

I had to agree and now rank it second best performance behind Placido Domingo at Royal Festival Hall

* I may have made that up

Here's that clip again for anyone who had forgot about it (complemented with some great/accurate interpretive subs)

I love this! The subs are amazing. Every time I see it posted I have to watch it about 5 times 😂

We went to see radiohead (who tbh we weren't fussed about), the first bit of their set wasn't doing it for us so we chipped off up to the park and we too had a cracking time.

Saw him last year at BST, not a big fan personally so no bias here. Yes he has to adjust the way he sings because he's 76, but it was nowhere near as bad as the dill dandin video and still a great atmosphere. Was worried about the same myself and had nothing to worry about in the end.

If you wanna talk about vocal trainwreck performances this year then look forward to Blondie.

I'd actually quite like him to do the alternate lyrics on that dil danding video.

Looking like a flu survivor
Feeling like a little can
Back up on the piss end of my life
w*nker never could have hoped to win

etc

🙂

Can also say he was fantastic at the O2 a couple of weeks ago.  His voice is good, a little deeper, but for fans of his famous (for me!) 1986 live in Australia tour when his vocal cords were shot, it really gives it something extra in the live setting.

Aside from that he has many of his old classic band from the 70s, from terrific albums like goodbye yellowbrick, captain fantastic etc, and they are tight.

Think he'll absolutely smash it on the pyramid, and his little stories and sentiments all add to it too.

My only concern is how busy it will be!

In 2010 I saw Orbital on The Other Stage when most of the festival were watching Stevie Wonder at the Pyramid, my mate was having a mushroom poo and we went down the left of the stage as it was starting we were in the first few rows I am actually on the BBC coverage, if you know where to look, still in my top three gigs of all time 🙂

Huge fan of Rudimental  gutted to be missing them tbh 😞
