Potential Train Strike

I’d suggest it’s quite possible so people should be having some backup plans ready @gazzared might have a bit more idea

I'll only know what I read on the news, signallers aren't part of the strikes anymore now RMT and network rail settled . It's the 14 TOC's who are still in dispute and they've just overwhelmingly voted to continue strike action which I think now gives them another 6 months where they can legally strike before needing another vote

Does anyone know how much notice is given for train strikes?. I have looked at National express and the prices have gone up from when I last checked.

2 weeks notice

The 3rd of June got announced as one about a week ago (FA Cup Final saturday). I reckon we should hear around the start of June

Hopefully we get a GSH in the strikes!

I believe they have to give two weeks notice, which means we may not know for sure until June. For this reason I am holding off booking trains and hotels until after that deadline.

It's highly likely that they will deliberately target Glastonbury for strike action. Their plan of action recently has been to target major events. As a result I am avoiding trains at all costs for Glastonbury this year.

Last year the strike was definitely on the Tuesday before Glastonbury - this stopped me getting my usual train to Castle Cary & I had to scramble for an alternative.

The problem then was there were reduced services on Weds due to trains not being where they needed to be, I believe.

They did last time so might as well do it again. Unless National Express and the fest are working towards adding more departures then its gonna be messy. I felt pretty fortunate to have gone to Bath a couple days before then took the Coach in. Saved some stress.

Yeah you are right , it was the day before which led to a greatly reduced service on the Wednesday

Yep, we gave a lift to a random guy from Derby on the Tuesday because of the strikes... Dropped him at B&W Showground Tuesday evening.

Hats off to the strikers. Hoping it won’t affect my plans too much but obviously that isn’t in the conversation of priority when people’s livelihoods are at stake.

If the trains are all cancelled then will it be a mad scramble to the national express coaches? Are there any other ways to travel from London?

There seemed to be more people using spare seats in their vehicles to offer lifts than there were people stuck last year, it really won't be a problem 👍

There weren't more coaches last time AFAIK and it was fine, no doubt it will be ok

I think everyone got taken by surprise so got to hope they've anticipated it and at least looked into it this year.

We stay in Castle Cary the Tuesday, and last year went down on the Monday instead. I've already booked a cancellable room on the Monday in anticipation, I just hope they don't do Monday AND Tuesday.

I also hope as said above that we find out more than 2 weeks before as with the start of June ones

I think legally they only have to give 1 weeks notice, but 2 is good practice.

I'm employed in the rail industry, and have asked my friends in the train operator side to keep me up-to date if they hear anything earlier - which I'll update you with, but in all honesty I'll likely only hear about it an hour or two before its national news.

If you need a coach from Brighton or London and want to fund a small charity you can still get tickets here. Last year we sold out once the train strikes were announced.

We also offer trips up for workers on the Tuesday.

See details here

Shame theres no London wednesday tickets are left, my mates would have been interested 😞 good to see its sold well though so far
