Wait where the hell are alt j going?

Given my lack of desirable headliner options (thanks, Woodsies for sorting my Sunday!), I was really hoping that alt-J would get a headline slot somewhere. I'm still holding out a tiny bit of hope that maybe they, and not Fever Ray, will get the Park slot, though I realise that's very much wishful thinking.

Last saw alt-J about second up on the second stage at Green Man in....2012? And a festival set of their best stuff would be great for me!

Surprised by all the Slowdive love as well. Saw them a few years ago and thought they were very average live. Starting to doubt myself 🫠

Not seen them before, but a bit of sad, repetitive, looping, shoegazey slowcore is right up my street! Woodsies is the perfect venue for them (other than maybe Park, in the dark...), so I'm hoping they can bring the same ethereal, emotional vibe that crushed me when Low played a few years ago.

The one track I listened to reminded me of Mogwai and Sigur Ros. Am I in the right ballpark?

A few acts on there that will draw my interest depending on clashes elsewhere.

Re Courteeners - I witnessed one of the worst headline sets I think I’ve ever seen at TRNSMT. Having said that, the possibility of St Jude in full in Woodsies, it won’t really matter that Liam Fray can’t sing will it? Great album full of great singalongs.

Hmmm. They wouldn't typically reach the properly loud post-rock of Mogwai, I don't think. Yes, there are elements of Sigur Ros in there, especially Valtari-era, I guess. But I still feel that Low are the closest touchpoint for me (and that can only be an endorsement!), but with more of an ambient, looping feel to the tracks, rather than the slightly more conventional verse-chorus structure that Low will use, albeit in very much a slowcore model*.

*just read all that back and it sounds horrendously beard-stroking muso. Sorry!

Emily literally confirmed Fever Ray to be headlining the Park so you’re shit out of luck on that one I’m afraid. Subbing or third down Other seems the only spot left for them at this point (hell, maybe they’ve even dropped down a bit more than that now).

Then listen to their 2017 album but avoid Pygmalion, they're unlikely to play much, if anything, from it.

Their latest album is my favourite. I know Souvlaki is widely regarded as their masterpiece, but the self titled just hits all the right buttons for me, especially with it being such a startlingly incredibly comeback after so long. Hoping the new one will be out soon after all the delays.

Yeah the latest one is really really good, probably as good as Souvlaki.

Stop coming at me with your facts! How does that help me?? 😭

Ah well. At least there might be one band I'm looking forward to on Other! I guess alt-J could sub Park, and a sunset set from them could be really nice...bit like Spiritualized a few years ago...

Agreed, the self titled is a fucking masterpiece.

The new Wet Leg

Seemingly so, although I quite like the song, I'm still baffled as to how they get the nod over others. I was hoping for any of Reytons, Lathums, Red Rum Club, K's, Andrew Cushin, Reverend, Vistas and quite a few others. All of whom have been busier and, actually released music!

Would these acts want to be on at 11am, which is likely when Last Dinner Party will be on....?

Not sure. But there are also bands like Bull, Corella, Bilk, Millie Manders, Casino and the Clause, who all have more material and have actually toured, that might.

Good q. Puts them either High Park, mid Other or Low Pyramid.

Unless they appeared on the poster as a bit of ghost wording from 2014.

Honestly i thought theyd have to be woodsies or park headliners after headlining other sat night before, although i know that was a funny placing at the time. Feel like their set kinda needs to be in the dark so must be late at the park. Still gonna be a weird placing again thou whereever they end up

Not much in there for me sadly. Was hoping for a potential return of M83 seeing as they’re in the UK around the festival, and had caught them in 2016 and thought they were great. Cigarettes after Sex/Bombay Bicycle Club/Blossoms/London Grammar were my other hopes potentially for a decent slot in Woodsies but no winners on takeshis castle this time. Roll on Park/Glade announcements over the next week or two.

If they were in the market for a one song out wonder who are going to FLY, should have opted for Wull.

I haven’t got a ticket this year but wonder how many people will be in the tent for Phoenix against Elton?

I love them and had a great time in there while Dave Grohl and the boys were on the Pyramid the other year but the crowd was sparse back then! I think Phoenix’s stock has slightly fallen as well.
