Predictions: 'Special guest' appearances 2023

About half an hour into the Elton set, the music suddenly dies and the stage is plunged into darkness.

Ten long minutes later a huge cry of "Kick out the Jams Motherf*ckers" rings out. The most spectacular lazer show ever radiates out from the Pyramid accompanied by this

Out of interest, who pays the special guest?

Is it the festival or does it come out of the main artists fee?

I’d suggest nobody.  It’d be down to the artist to call in a favour, nothing to do with the festival

It's not really. Some do, some don't. Macca did, but out of the old guard U2, the Stones, Stevie, Springsteen, Neil Young, The Who, etc all didn’t.

That said, I think for Elton it'll be Kiki Dee - or nothing at all.

U2 wrote a Glastonbury song, Stevie sang Happy Birthday with Michael, I doubt Neil Young did a version of Rocking in the Free World like that on tour, and he had premiered ‘A Day in the Life’ before but hasn’t played it again since 2009, I haven’t checked but would be surprised if Bowie had played everything on his 2000 set list at any other gig elsewhere - certainly ‘Greensleeves’ seems totally unique, though he may have played it at the first Glastonbury?!

I’m pretty sure Stevie hadn’t played ‘Human Nature’ before either.

Edit: I should probably add they didn’t actually play the Glastonbury song in the end (I don’t think) for some reason, but they were going to lengths to do something original to start with.

Yes, played it in 2009, but not since.

Ahh. Got you.

I just think that sometimes though there is a belief by everyone who attends Glastonbury that to all artists Glastonbury is a pull out all stops never to be repeated moment but for some it is just another gig.

Rolling stones at i.o.w had paulo nutini and amy whinehouse on stage with them for example. Sounds like im bigging up i.o.w it's just thats the other big (in the day) festival i can use as reference.

Another random bit is that endorse it in dorset had Strummerville there and someone much younger than me asked me if i knew who joe strummer was.

Dunno why this annoyed me so much except that they were too young to have seen him live and some of us were there for his lost years. (Latino rockabilly war at the bierkeller. Not even a sell out).

Sting on pyramid on Friday. Crowded House slot. My banker.

Forgot about Sting - totally plausable. And if not this year, do we think he could potentially do the legend slot in a few years?

That would be brilliant. Friday afternoon is already my must see afternoon so I can only add to it. Feels a bit low for him to do though.

4 nights running he'd have to do though.

And on finding that out I would die.

About a 10% chance of me watching Elton. Which actually probably just rose to 20% !! Just because it just could happen 😂

I've frightened myself.

What if I've imagined it into happening. 😮

I remember watching Gorillaz on the Pyramid and my mind just being boggled at all the guests they brought out. I said to my buddy as he walked on stage 'F**k me Lou Reed is here.' Some young guy in the crowd nearby "Who is Lou Reed?". The innocence of youth lol.

Actually Gorillaz is another good example - did they ever have that many guests off their album on any other part of that tour?

I’ve been waiting since I was 16 to see this!
