For the Rolling Stones in 2013 they had trucks positioned at a lot of the pedestrian walk ways in towards the Pyramid Stage and flashed up "NO ENTRY - PYRAMID FULL" signs before they came on - fully expecting the same for Elton.

Didn’t it close for Dolly Parton too in 2014?

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but despite The Temple being capacity controlled, I'd expect the whole queue and surrounding area to be absolutely rammed before Hedex b2b Bou, obviously always busy for the opening, but would expect it to be a fair bit busier, especially with the young lot, admittedly a good chunk of my mates are desperate to be there for that.

This.

Diana was chocker last year so we had to walk up to the back of the pyramid field and then find a way down through the crowds. Although it appears really busy around the edges, the matter of fact is that there's a substantial amount of people on that outer crowd sat with picnic blankets, chairs etc. I don't have an issue with this, but when we then started to head down through the crowd from the back of the field, it was said people on chairs and lying down sunbathing that then started having a right go at us purely because we wanted to head into the crowd and find a decent space to watch her from. Literally nearly came to blows at one point as a group of lads were clearly trying to block us from walking through although there was vast amounts of space in front of them by about 20 yards, and then they started calling us scum bags for just trying to get a decent spot! Surely if you're going to set up a picnic blanket and have a snooze by the stage you can't really complain if people are working past you to find a decent enough space with a bit of atmosphere around it. Not as though we were parking ourselves right in front of someone and blocking their view, it was literally just a case of excusing ourselves through people sat down not even paying attention to the stage for them to then berate us for wanting to actually watch the performance. Baffles me!

there really needs to be some sort of announcment over the tannoys in that field if its getting close to full to say if you're lying down/blankets/chairs out etc that if you are able to stand (i know some can't) then put your belongings away so others can enter the field.

Loads of people were blocking the entrance by the toilets for the cider bus on Saturday afternoon/evening last year by standing on the path/edge of the field as it was slightly raised, which meant getting in and out for the toilet/beer etc was a lot worse than it needed to be.

50% to a 1k tent with acts like Four Tet, Eats Everything in etc won't make much difference.

The acts in there most of the day could be in a stage 3x as busy and still be busy - regulars seemingly don't even bother with it because its that busy. Let alone the thursday!

You are, of course, correct! But...but...maths 😂

I'm hoping to get some classics in at the start of Elton then go catch the end of QOTSA

In reality I know I have zero chance of moving through the crowd to do that

Have faith and go alone. I was able to exit macca for a piss and cider bud run and rejoin my group.

Even 1 additional person attempting it with you increases difficulty substantially.

You won't get into the pit.  Unless you want to be extremely unpleasant and force your way in.

I've only gone JP -> Pyramid around sub/headliner time twice and both times it was chocker.  Ended up going quite a way back and circumnavigating the sound desks to the other side, which always seems to be less choked.

Yeah I dont intend to push past chocker-block bits, so I don't expect the pit. I'm wondering where to aim for, and which but of the pyramid field to try and enter from. So as you say, maybe I should "circumnavigating the sound desks to the other side".

I'm also thinking I should avoid entering the field from the very front right bit, and enter the mid way right bit (from The Woods)

For me the issue is. I think a lot will be in the field really early. I have no interest in watching lil nas x.

I was debating watching The Hu then the Bootleg Beatles - then mooching down towards the Pyramid. I can imagine then Bootleg Beatles > Elton being a popular route

Elton crowd is going to be off the charts in my opinion. I really do hope people are sensible with their chairs and Blankets and put excess baggage away in the lockups

I really hope so.

Although not sure it'll take away the hard core Temple crew.

Agreed. But I think turning up to watch the entire previous act if you have zero interest is seriously crazy. There is WAY too much great stuff to catch to do that.

I've never seen bootleg Beatles on the acoustic but surely they don't get a huge crowd? When they last played the pyramid they were the first act of the day.

My mate said they got a decent crowd when he saw them. (2017 I think) but it depends on who they are up against.  I think they'll get a big crowd for that tent this year.

Yeah. I wont be doing that. I might catch the end of him, but wont be standing through an hour of it. Gutted to miss Candi Staton + The war on drugs!

I think here will be a load of folk watching Lil Nas X that will have zero interest in Elton, so plenty of crowd movement after his set ends. The question is which side will most of them exit? I'm guessing Other/Silver Hayes direction so better to be that side.

Yea

If there was ever an artist perfect for the picnic blanket posse, it's Elton. There will be a sea of them.

What's the etiquette with people sat on camping chairs? We wandered a bit further down from the back for Elbow last year and I stood up but felt bad for the people behind me in their camping chairs. There were so many that I would've been in front of anyone if I'd moved. If you're in a chair do you accept normal people are going to want to stand up and potentially block your view? Or should the normal people be walking so far forward that they're beyond the realms of the chairs?

You shouldn’t worry about blocking their view. Obviously if they’re right at the back of the crowd then maybe try not to stand directly in front as there should be more room further forward for you to stand, but if they’re in the thick of the crowd then they should be prepared for somebody to stand in front of them.

Unless they have a very good reason to be in a camping chair ignore them.

They're the ones causing the issue, not you.
