Disposable vapes ban

Euphoricape

The labour ban is unlikely to stop them - shops already sell 'refillable' disposables which are clearly meant to be thrown away. AFAIK these aren't being banned.

Until they are banned outside the festival properly, there's no way they can ban them inside the festival without massively upping searches.

Those refillable, rechargeable ones aren't too bad, if people are throwing them away then that says more about them. Like they have way too much money and not enough brain cells.

Why would you want to pay £6-20 for a new battery kit when you can just replace the tank on top for around £1.50? (Packs of two are 2 packs (4 tanks) for £6 at our local Applegreen garage, probably even cheaper elsewhere.) Or better yet, refill the tank.

I don't use them, I still have the same proper kit I spoke of earlier in this thread, vaping costs me around 50p per day or less... But I'd much rather people use them than fully disposables, if they find them more manageable than a full mod kit.

There's a special place in hell for the person that invented disposables. They took really good, established, and fairly environmentally friendly tech, and made it just about as harmful to the environment as you could have done. w*nkers.

Did you know that the batteries, they use in disposables, are actually rechargeable anyway? This guy's collecting them and using them for allsorts, such as this ebike battery!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcVp9T8f_W4 👏

If everyone around you was smoking in an open field you’d still be ingesting less CO than if you were stood in Tesco car park.

Of course, you may find it unpleasant and people should respect your space but it’s not going to kill you or affect your health in any way.

But you don't stand in a Tesco car park for 5 days straight, to be fair 🤣

I do wonder if the people who complain about second hand smoke , which they are entitled to do, then sit in the carpark on Monday with their engines running not thinking about the fumes others will endure

I think it's more likely that the people who don't give a sh*t about blowing smoke in someone's face would also not give a sh*t about making people breathe in their exhaust fumes.

I'm sure there are some dicks who do one and not the other too, mind.

I see why people would want to ban disposable vapes, but wouldn't that just encourage people to bring ciggies? I'd go with the lesser of two evils on this one.

I expect we'll see an upswing in people buying reusable vapes instead of cigarettes. Smoking isn't as cool as it used to be, but I doubt we'll see masses of people giving up vaping any time soon either.

It's one of the underrated joys of the festival: getting yourself a cigarette during a great headline set, passing one to your mate, lighting it for them, having the time of your life

Honestly I don't know why people go to Glastonbury if they think smoking in a crowd is such a big deal. You're at one of the most hedonistic festivals in the world. It's gonna happen. Wait until you hear about some of the other things that go on.

Like what? Does Michael Eavis store nuclear waste somewhere on site? I'm mainly interested in the things people do that could give me cancer 😅

Consuming red meat (widely available on site), consuming alcohol or illicit substances, and lack of sleep are all associated with an increased risk of cancer, much like passive smoking.

Someone call the Daily Mail, Glasto gives you cancer!

(Obviously being tongue in cheek here, but the way I feel physically after every festival is enough to convince me it's shortening my life. It's worth it - life is short anyway, may as well enjoy it.)

Out of reactions, but this is spot on.

It’s a festival not a church fete

Nobody has ever shoved red meat down my gullet at any festival. I think choice is the key element in this argument.

What people do to themselves is up to them.

I’m really not a fan of alcohol, don’t like being around overly alcohol vibes and absolutely hate it if a beer gets spilled on me.

But it’s a festival and people like to drink

I don't like getting alcohol thrown on me either. But i don't see how that justifies second hand smoking. That's like saying it's ok to rob someone because that person over there is kicking the sh*t out of someone. No. Both things are wrong.

I'm not a smoker, never have been, parents used to smoke and I absolutely hated it and I still do but the idea of banning smoking in public places, apart from outside hospitals and schools, is ridiculous. Banning it at festivals is the same. Glastonbury was always an place of freedom, where people could enjoy themselves freely - if someone is near you and starts smoking just move away if it bothers you.

Well I hope you never go near the stone circle for one, as that would making you a raging hypocrite if so

The chances of you getting cancer from a few people occasionally smoking near you a few times a weekend are so, so minimal it's barely a thing.

Do you get as wound up about people driving cars around every day when they could be taking public transport or cycling?

This forum seems a very precious subsection of the Glastonbury crowd - I've never once noticed anyone complain, or even move away when I've seen people smoking. It's accepted it's part of what goes on at a festival, and I would think that will never change

Next people will be saying there shouldn't be any wood burnt on the site and no fireworks.

Well, if you're bringing up public transport, it's a lot nicer now that smoking is banned on it. If you have a habit/addiction that is gradually being banned from all public places there's got to be a part of you that knows you're on the wrong side of the argument (and probably why you are being so precious about the few places you can still annoy people in public).

Most smokers are considerate now, and thankfully the few that aren't considerate are dinosaurs that we'll see the back of soon 🥳
