Public bus routes to/from Pilton/Shepton Mallet

The Oxfam buses are full up so I need other means to get to Oxfield by Tuesday evening 8pm. Can get a lift with my mate who's staying in CV East on the Tuesday but fancied going down Monday. Does anyone know the bus route details for buses that run to Pilton or Shepton Mallet and where they run from? Ideally i'd get a train to a station somewhere and pick a bus up to Pilton but not sure if that's possible. Any help appreciated.

Full details on this page https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/getting-here/by-bus/ they go from gate A, make sure you get there 10 mins before as it can be a little confusing there are lots of buses!

Thanks for this buddy but none listed on there run on the Monday before the festival.

If you go to Castle Cary, there is a shuttle running on Monday to the Festival Coach Station at Gate A. They don't list staff arrival days on the Festival web site, but they do run from CC.

However this is not where you need to be. You'd be better asking around when you get to CC, and seeing if anyone wants to share a Taxi to the Oxfam field as otherwise the walk from Gate A through Pilton Village won't be a lot of fun - you can't go the more direct route through the Festival site as you won't have a wristband yet.

Thanks for this. It might not be where I need to be but it's at least going to get me closer to the farm. I'm planning on travelling light so don't mind a bit of a walk at the festival end even if I can't go through the site. I have however found someone on Liftshare near me that's travelling on the Monday so fingers crossed.

Mate, Pilton is shite to try and get to on the bus full stop.

I worked Worthy Pastures the post covid / fallow fest year.  Arrived at Bristol TM on the Monday with a camp site booked beneath the Tor Monday night and planning to get bus to Pilton Tuesday morning.
I got a week megarider / saver ticket on the bus from Bristol to Glastonbury intending to take full advantage of the 24 quid ticket and travel to and from Pilton to Street to Wells to Glastonbury Town on days off from Worthy Pastures.

On the Tuesday morning, not only did it take me 30 mins asking locals, including tourist information, where the Glastonbury to Pilton bus stop was, I then waited 45 mins for a late bus (one of them little mini bus things turned up) and had to pay another 6 quid as the service is ran by a parochial coach firm.  My 24 quid week ticket was useless.
Pilton is terribly connected bus wise full stop and I think the virtually none existent service does stop entirely for the full festival period.

Option 1.  Train to Castle Cary and then a crew bus or a taxi to site (can be dear as some firms take the piss)

Option 2.  Bus from Bristol TM to Glastonbury Town (they leave from the stops at the bottom of the ramp at the station), have a mooch and beers in Glastonbury Town and perhaps even stay there for a night and then get a taxi.  The taxis from Glastonbury to the drop point near Ped Gate A are between 15 and 20 quid which aint too bad. Get the price up front.

I have done option 2 several times and camped at several sites in and around Glastonbury town pre festival.  its good fun.  have some ales walk up the Tor and watch the sunrise / sunset.

Do not try to get to Pilton on a public bus on the Monday or Tuesday.  Its a none starter

Thanks for this, it's most helpful. I think option 2 will be good as a backup, I guess it's easier to get a taxi from Glastonbury town rather than Castle Cary? It's about 2 miles from Ped Gate A to the Oxfield, that's do-able if I travel light.

Loads of Taxi's in Glastonbury Town and they just seem to not rip off as much as the ones that wait at Castle Cary to charge a festival goer what they think they can get away with.

Tell taxi guy you are working on site etc, all the usual "I wasnt born yesterday" angles

Yep, that is the other angle.  Taxis are instructed to drop at the designated spot and wont drop at Ped Gate B as it is more difficult for them to drive to and they risk getting in mither with the organisers.  No doubt it is a bit of a schlepp to the Oxfield

I will admit i am not up to speed at all with Shepton Mallet chicanery.  I always stay Glastonbury Town the night before as i have to go up the Tor. It aint no festival without my personal pilgrimage.  Its all about this
