jannybruck
The National sell tickets to a certain demographic, so if the festival think they fit then they'll get booked. They're an easy win, and there's an existing relationship there.

Coming from someone who has been seeing them live since Boxer came out.

I think they are conscious of trying to keep things relatively fresh and they have simply been at the top of the poster too often recently. Wilco fitted the demographic and they used to book them regularly but despite the relationship, they stopped booking them. Plus of course their touring dates may not coincide.
festivalguy97
Who will be the biggest hip hop name on this lineup? As things stand, Travis Scott seems to be my biggest guess. I thought that after the Astroworld tragedy they would never be able to book him but he performed at Primavera Americas so I guess they don’t care. To be honest he has a massive tour in the US booked so the floodgates are already open. Think he'll be booked, I just hope some of the bad people in his fanbase don't ruin the vibe of that day. As a longtime fan, I can be ok with a wednesday headlining slot or with a 3rd/4th slot in the main days (with some good counter-programming though). If they bill them as headliners again I would feel it’s a cheap move (as it would be) Edited October 5, 2023 by Whos3000_

With basically the same setlist as in 2018 though. Very little variations and definitely not based that much on fossora

What if they went against the hypetrain and bet their money on Drake (+21 savage)? Huge star, solid back catalogue (well, let’s pretend his last solo efforts do not exist) and new release incoming

scatteredscreens
I preferred the time we had unrealistic expectations like Portishead, not Drake 😂 1

More critical acclaimed that fits the Primavera profile, way more than a EDM mainstream DJ. If you can't see that, then you either hate Drake very much or don't know what kind of music profile Primavera has.

Maybe some of his early stuff (Take Care, Nothing Was the Same) but his material now is mainly absolute trash. He has nowhere near the acclaim other acts like Tyler, Kendrick, Travis (although I think he is vastly overrated) that the festival book. He'd also come with a massive price tag to the point the festival think we'd get better value booking someone else. 3 2
festivalguy97
Just listened to the new Sufjan Stevens album, absolutely beautiful album, his best one since Carrie & Lowell. Would be amazing to have him at Primavera.

I read a couple of days ago that he´s been recovering pretty well and that already 1 month ago he was in recovery so let´s see, but maybe 2024 is too early for him. Sure, can agree with that, but my response was that Drake is way better booking than Calvin Harris (and in that comparison you can say that Drake is critically acclaimed). I also said that he was way too big anyway.

Gabi has said he isn't touring. Sufjan has said in the past he doesn't like touring as well. I think he won't tour in a full capacity ever again, and even the chance of a handful of dates is slim. chilirocker
Suede and the Manics just announced a joint tour in the UK, could see them co-headlining the Wednesday maybe.
bobhoward
I saw the suede/maniacs tour when it came to the US last year. Suede were dynamite.. new album cuts were fantastic.. even wished they’d played more off the new album.. maniacs were a snoozefest.
Whos3000_
Not at the top of my wishlist either but having drake at the festival would 100% be better than having a soulless copycat like travis Scott and that’s a fact
