Yeah, because they are sharing the bill with MOR dross as if the only thing that matters is the cheque.

Are acts supposed to review all acts across every line of the festival before they sign up? Maybe Blur shouldn't have headlined PS 2023 as they were sharing a line with Halsey. I think Ed Sheeran is sh*t but if the National want to play under him fair play, show's they're not divas who will only take the headline position everywhere.

In answer to your first question, yes.

And there's a world of difference between 'being a diva' and being a creative person who chooses to perform alongside other likeminded creative people and doesn't make all event decisions based on money. It's not like they are standing outside with a 'Boycott Hurricane Festival' poster if they choose to stay away.

And TBH, considering previous timetables of this festival, The National will probably:
a) headline second stage
b) play after Ed Sheeran

I mean Aaron produced both albums Sheeran released this year and the other guys did some of the instrumentals. So it only makes sense that they are playing some dates with him imo.

But yeah, in general I would agree, it's surprising to see them on the line-up, but more so because Hurricane/Southside stopped booking acts like them.

Feels like a very weird position to take. I don't blame artists for taking slots underneath 'worse' artists. I go to glastonbury most years and they book some stuff I find garbage but they also book good stuff.

Nice to see you didn't respond to my Halsey point.

I also think that unless you're sharing a line-up with abusers you shouldn't really care who you're playing with.

This. It reminds me of that moment where both Foo Fighters and The Cure played. But I wouldn't be surprised if Ed closes main 1 and The National close main 2 afterwards. Even if it is the other way round, it doesn't matter too much since The National will play to a dedicated audience.

We are obviously going to have to agree to disagree. That is a lineup of mostly crap or washedup acts and it demeans The National to share the same bill. It's not about one specific act, it's the overall feel of the lineup.

But it doesn't demean them at all, all acts have played across line ups that may be deemed as 'bad'. I think anyone who judges an act for playing a crap line up has some weird snobby complex to them tbh.

Yeah, weird, judgey music snob - I admit you've got me bang to rights there.

I know Primavera gets a pass in this regard given its multiple headliners per night, but The National again would be so dull. It probably will happen as they’re just such an easy booking with a guaranteed fanbase at the festival and now have two new albums to play from, but it just seems soblazy to have a headliner on an every-other-festival schedule.

With PJ seemingly getting ready to announcing a show at Gunnersbury in London for next August does that make her more or less likely for Primavera???

Doesn't change much, but it confirms she is prepared to play her setlist in front of 20,000-40,000 people. Even if she keeps the exact same show as this current tour, I think it would work OK, at least for festival-goers that can accept a quiet, sober performance.

Perfectly agree. You have to trust the promoters, people at the top of the organisation. If that's the case, then I don't understand why a band would worry who else is on the lineup. I don't know much about Hurricane, but they had plenty of fine bands in the past. If the organisers are still the same, then it would certainly make sense for a band to say yes...

If definitely feels like we could get a fair few people back very quickly from 2022 - but it was a bumper edition and there are only so many medium & large sized acts to go around.

The National are very safe, but as mentioned by others, they are at least at the top of their game at the moment. They were genuinely superb when I saw them a few weeks ago.

From that initial Hurricane announcement, I could also see the following...

- The Offspring - but in a very specific spot to counter something hip hop based, as per Bad Religion when Kendrick was on last year

- The Hives - in the Ghost slot from last year as a big chunk of fun to open things up

Jungle, The Gaslight Anthem, Fontaines, Frank Carter (1am on Cupra in the Idles slot from 2022), The Mysterines (early doors on Mordor).

I really agree with this sentiment. I actually wouldn't mind if they did or didn't play. But it certainly does feel lazy. I also don't think it will be the deep cut laden 30 song setlists we've had as of late which I'd much prefer over the festival style setlist we'd probably get.

The Hives are great live so would be a good addition. Would be happy if we got Fontaines and Frank Carter too. The Mysterines are great so they’d be a nice addition.

They really shouldn't book The National again. Honestly, that would be so lazy and uninspired. I kind of feel the same about Tyler, Interpol, Tame Impala, Cigarettes after Sex and probably a couple more I can't think of right now.

I like all of these acts but it's not very exciting to see the same bookings every second year or so. Maybe if they drop a great new album then it's somewhat understandable but I'd prefer fresher acts in these slots, especially as headliners.
