Football 2023/24

The first three games this season have made me think the difficulty level is already higher than last season but wow. Getting Man City at home in the Carabao Cup was bad enough, but this is a triple whammy of difficulty. But equally, this is our first time in the Champions League in 20 years, so I guess it's about the experience.

Can dream of progress though. All 3 of PSG, Dortmund and Milan have their flaky moments.

those saudi's are going to decimate the prem, paying silly money for any stand out players - they've offered £150M for salah.

By today's ridiculous standards £150m isn't silly money, it's about right (maybe even a bit low).

But I get what you're saying. Mind you football is finished as a credible competitive sport anyway.

Will be surprised if Salah is a Liverpool player this time next week.

The bids will just keep on getting higher, I am sure Liverpool are aware of that. As are they in a position to turn down 150m for a player that turns 32 next june?

Hmmmm... I'm not unduly worried just yet, as we were given a dreadful start to the season with 3 games we have struggled to win in days of yore, so was braced for the possibility of a run of Man City, Liverpool and Brighton yielding 0 points.

But f**king hell today's performance was just lacking in all areas.

Centre back partnership of Maguire and Evans. 😆

Was just about to say. Sure enough the winning Arsenal goals come after they both come off, and given apparently both Martinez & Lindelof left the stadium injured, that raises the possibility of that being a starting CB pairing v Brighton in 2 weeks time. Which, bold.

I find football coverage funny in terms of how they look for their own narrative. Rice scores a winning goal today and it’s evidence he is a big game player, Nketiah scores the winner a year ago and it’s just a dramatic winning goal!

big money gives a label for a big game player.
