I really don’t get the general light hearted take on people bunking in and them essentially having the same access and enjoyment as somebody who has spent £350+ to be there.

Regardless how how the festival used to be decades ago when this was the norm, it’s a different beast now. For me, it’s not ‘funny’ or ‘a laugh’, you’re actually effectively committing a crime and are being an inconsiderate, selfish (insert swear word) if you’re attempting it.

Agree with this sentiment even if I sound like a square, I've never attempted to bunk into any festival. You either have a ticket and go, or you suck it up and don't go if you don't have a ticket.

I am no grass and got no issues with people who jib it

Why out of interest? If you haven't paid for a ticket, or cannot work / get entry legally - don't go.

Theres an annoying sense of entitlement with people who try to get in by any means necessary.

Facebook group for parents going to Glastonbury, good for ideas / info

Thanks. My wife and daughter witnessed a similar punch up so was interested in whether this was an isolated case or not.

Because I can’t do buggar all about it, so what’s the point?

I have one priority and one priority only whilst I’m at the festival and that’s making sure that I and the people around me are having a good time. If I let things like that wind me up then it’s only going to negatively affect my own experience.

It’s a lot of planning, money, effort and time between deciding you want to go and actually being there. I simply refuse to let anything get on my nerves whilst I’m there

Fair enough mate, I just think people bunking in which creates a festival in over capacity does actually negatively impact on other peoples enjoyment.

Totally understand not letting it wind you up over the weekend, but it's also fine to point it out after the fact.

It's not a crime to bunk in, it's trespass, so the police aren't interested and once they get kicked out, they can try as many times as they like, through as many different routes, until they get in.

I thought it was quieter this year than 2022. I heard they had hired hundreds of extra security this year and that last year a lot of the security staff went on strike on Wednesday because their campsite had no toilets and showers, so there was no one to deal with people running through the gates. So much easier to get in in 2022.

My biggest shock this year was discovering that local tickets are transferrable "up to 5 times" by writing names on the back of the ticket. You can't use pencil to write the names, but you can get pens that can be rubbed out. So if you go in, pull your wristband off and send someone out with the wristband and the local ticket, they can sell it on outside the festival. The going rate was £500 apparently.

Would be quite simple to implement a QR code system like the EPOs have on all wristbands and it would remove people's ability to use this route in.

-Loss of Williams Green. I’m still sad about this almost a week on…

-Lack of shade. Obviously there is lack of shade but every year since 2017 has been hot, can they not add areas of shade in various locations across site with tarp type materials?

-Idiot going on a rampage in Big Ground stealing 20 or so phones at 9am one morning - this is no reflection on the security and police as he was in handcuffs not long after. Sorry but who does this?!?!

Might not be the correct thread for it, but there was a group of lads near us who bought everything new for the festival and left everything behind. Two tents, air beds, every single bit of their rubbish.

The idiots left Amazon boxes in their tent with their names and addresses on. I took a load of pictures,is it worth sending these to the festival? Is there a chance they will chase it up and potentially ban the guy?

Not sure if to just leave it and move on, or if it's worth reporting

How many people even break in? If it’s enough to affect the feeling of overcrowding I’d be very surprised. The main factor in the feeling of overcrowding is the increased legal capacity combined with demographic shifts away from the sort of people likely to spend all weekend in the non-music areas. Find a way to make sure a certain proportion of attendees are the sorts to not go near the Pyramid or SE Corner all weekend and you’re flying. Personally I’d be all up for buying a ticket which let me access everywhere except the Pyramid but that’s obviously completely unenforceable.

Yeah it absolutely needs pointing out now. The festival have gotta sort it out and the punters deserve a little better now the prices are so much higher. With the current numbers on site, the next mudbath festival is going to make 2016 look like a sunny utopia. I think that’ll be the watershed moment, better for them to sort it out before that happens

I think this is a 'thing' with some younger attendees. My daughters boyfriend went to reading last year and said that it was his groups intention to just leave their tent and stuff behind, as that's 'what people do'

How about a single thread to accumulate any and all the things you don't like about Glastonbury. Will save clogging the thread line with too many individual moaner threads.

Keep comments pithy / brief. I'll start, and may add more. I'm thinking about things that Glasto could do something about

F***ing flags

Reverse slope at Acoustic tent

Lack of one way/left rights at main pinch points

Lack of something other than dance music after hours

Yes! Re the dance music. I said this too. I dont want to listen to that!!

I was chatting to one of the security guards and he said it wasn't just the quantity this year but also the quality. Anecdotally he said a lot of the security staff they had last year were inexperienced (pretty much anyone they could get their hands on) where this year it was much better. It felt as busy this year as last, but I didn't feel like it ever became unsafe where I did last year. I actually saw people getting tackled and busted this year.

I know why it's the way it is, but they need to rethink the local tickets in some way. In the run up to Elton there were full on encampments of local ticket holders with inflatable sofas, chairs, blankets and all sorts of crap. And they refused to take them down even when asked, even when the public announcement was made. There's a sense of entitlement with them, I think, and it was causing aggro.

Just the one big one for me this year, those fences put up around various fields…totally understand the need to keep an access route clear for vehicles but ‘caging’ people in just meant that the way out was weaving through lots of tents hoping to avoid all the camping paraphernalia/guy ropes rather than out of the nearest edge.

It would have been far safer and easier to either police people setting up (as per last year) or have regular gaps left for people to get in and out rather than having to resort to the panels twisted out of shape and the worst-kept ‘secret’ gates that popped up organically (the fact one happened to be next to our tent in Bushy Ground was both incredibly convenient and a source of togetherness as a part of the club!).

There were, admittedly far less people peeing on the land towards the river as they couldn’t simply wander over. Possibly another reason for the change.

Oh…on that note…the toilets too…it felt like there were less this year around the campsite, but could just be the urinals went in to replace some of the others that were there previously?

An awesome experience as usual but a few gripes seeing as there is a topic!

Still some potentially dangerous bottle necks when crowds were moving between areas particular the Truth stage area - got stuck gridlocked here a few times. Bigger draws are needed at IICON - a brilliantly designed area but never seems busy.

Many of the evening stages play very similar music. Possibly just to my untrained ear but not alot of variety!

Weather was also too hot at times, particularly on Saturday. Obviously personal preference and nothing the festival can do but i find it hard work when the sun is beating down on you and little shade.

they're going to need more shaded areas.

Or maybe move the festival to the 2nd bank holiday in May when weather is much more civilised.. They could do that when they make the weds/thurs ticket change thing.
