I enjoyed Cat, but I enjoyed Diana, Barry, Kylie, etc more.

Fine for a one-off, but could do without it becoming the po-faced real music by musicianly musicians slot.

Has Paul Wellend reached legendary status yet?

Although looking on Setlist FM largely draws a blank, I watched Shania Twain At The BBC some time around when she was last in the country and knew most of the songs. Maybe it's just the names people don't know?

Anyway, she'd put on a decent 60 minutes.

Same here I didn't think I knew a single song until I just searched her on YouTube. I do recognize 2 songs (the ones mentioned) but I still would have thought Sheryl Crow has more hits (but YouTube view counts prove me wrong as Shania's top 2 songs are 3x-5x more views than Crow's top 2).

It's a great trick to get an act to agree to a mid-day slot who may otherwise balk. I was very happy to see Cat there.

While Cat was a vibe shift, Twain would be a shift in when their biggest songs hit. Diana Ross & Cat Stevens are 60s/70s, Dolly 70s/80s, Kylie starts in the 80's - Twain's big hits seem to be late 90s.

Stevie Nicks or Cher would be more consistent in terms of when the big hits start (even if tons of people may only now know "Believe" by Cher from 1998).

While this is true - she's definitely a bit more modern, 25 years past her heyday oddly puts her in the same sort of bracket as earlier Legends Slots like Isaac Hayes and Al Green.

I'd much rather either Stevie or Cher. The latter has to be the #1 on the wishlist.

So, we're applying "legendary" status to Shania Twain now, are we?

Shania Twain is the world's best selling female country music artist with 85 million record sales.

3 x UK No 1 albums, active 30 years.

Taylor Swift has cited her as one of her most prominent musical influences - she was Taylor Swifting before Taylor Swift basically.

She's as qualified as Kylie was for the legend slot.

A fair few contemporary artists claiming her as a big influence and Country/Americana is having its day at the moment. Haim are huge fans. If she gets a couple of guest spots from some of her contemporary fans she would go down very well. If the slot isn't as bat sh*t mental as it has been some years that would be a good thing as well (imo at least).

I can't argue with the stats but to compare her status alongside Kylie is a bit of a reach. Poles apart in terms of cultural impact in the UK

Probably just because Pop is more part of our culture than Country.  And Kylie's been in our lives since the Charlene and Scott days in Neighbours when we were kids.

Exactly why I think Kylie is levels above Shania.

I accept your point regarding the overall success, though. I'm just not sure she's quite worthy of that slot, but I'm probably letting personal taste cloud my judgment.

Also gotta be noted that Shania went MIA for like 15 years at the height of her popularity due to health issues and then came back and had both of her comeback albums go to #1 in the U.K. so clearly she’s still got a big and devoted audience. Not gonna deny that her massive success lies almost entirely with one mega selling album that came out 27 years ago, but goddamn what an album.
