Capacity was lower then though so it was fine.

I've just visions of people in huge crowds shuffling along pathways taking hours to cross the site in the rain...

Capacity was lower by 8,000, which shouldn't be enough to make that big a difference.

I'm still convinced the site feeling busier is more down to a much higher number blagging in than before, rather than tickets sold. The Festival have lost control of their gates and desperately need to get it back.

The thing is, the gates have multi layers with security / festaff / oxfam and aside from a handful of successful runners I can't see how they get through there, certainly not in any large number.

That said, maybe 2024 is the year the pass out system is finally dropped and EPO's are issued to everyone... but there's been talk of that since before covid.

It's not so much "runners".

As I've said before, a "blind eye" is applied in many cases.

Totally agree. I definitely think it's a bigger problem than most are aware of. EPOs for everyone on site would be a start, but wouldn't completely eradicate it, particularly as there are a lot more people sleeping outside of the fence these days (volunteers and glampers)

I can only see this happening on vehicle gates.  Too many eyes at the PG's

Correct

There is a "weakness" on some vehicle gates, up until a certain date.

Anyway, I said enough/too much already.

Could be. Or increased number of staff/non general sale tickets. Either way, it'll still be a problem if it rains,

staff and non general tickets are all included in the overall approved capacity

Yeah.

Saying "lost control of the gates" maybe isn't the best phrasing as I don't mean simply literally the gates themselves. I mean the entire entry/exit process.

There's plenty blags going on that the Gate Staff won't/couldn't pick up on. You mention vehicle gates are easier (and they are - that's what I'd target if I was that way inclined), but there's also people going through pedestrian gates.

The path from Worthy view should be a right laugh

In 2022 there were contingency plans to open the fence and use the old steps up to WV if the new path down became treacherous in rain. Certainly was a hard slog with all the loose gravel and stones. Don’t know if it had been improved this year.

Only ever been up it once, many years ago, pre festival. I have some mates who live on the edge of the site.

Shame about the contingency plans, I was hoping for a water slide.

where is the coach pick-up?i'll try a parking suggestion for you.

Been busy and meant to reply to this a while ago.

I can't remember but presume it's probably near the train station.

If it comes to it I'll enquire nearer the time,

Thank you.

There are absolutely whole scale issues with the gates - it is VERY easy to get in if you know how and have £500.

You really don't even need that much, or quite often, any money at all. I won't say how I know, but I absolutely know. I've never done it, and would never do it, but I personally know at least half a dozen people among a relatively small group that get in every year without a ticket and have done for a decade

Pop in to E21 Campervan field on Wednesday or Thursday evening and you will see the groups of people without wristbands awaiting there meet up with a trader to smuggle them in. Or being rounded up by security and being removed from the site. This has been happening for years!

Never spotted the trader, just the hoards of people on mobiles looking very edgy but trying to look like they belong. Security was better this year but it still kicked off on Thursday in the early hours.

I could have got in via gate C from the CV fields a few years ago, on the Tuesday afternoon. I got as far as the wristband exchange without being seen, just by walking in, there was one older Oxfam woman on a different aisle in front of me. I would easily have got passed her if I’d chosen to. Security were nowhere near.
