I understand EDM as  Martin Garrix, maybe Arbat at most. I cannot consider the same thing for Four Tet, Hawtin, Fred or Overmono, they all are electronic music, yes, but very different. I love electronic music, but not all the electronic names.

I see 21 names out of 35 that are not pure electronic, so I don't see your 3/4

Well, if you don't consider actual DJs like Fred Again and Four Tet as EDM, I can understand how you can think that 21 names out of 35 are not electronic music

I feel like you are in minority, though

First Four Tet's album is from 1999, of course he is not actual. But this is not my point. As I told  before, I understand EDM as this Tomorrowland type of djs, (Garrix, Avicci, Guetta, SHM, Alesso etc).

Meute is electronic music, but they play instruments, and they sound totally different from my perspective, just to point one from the fest. Many people love Fred and hate this tomorrowland type of electronic music, it's like comparing Nu-Metal with Punk just because they both have guitars.

You have : Stormzy, Sam Smith, Aurora, Crystal FIghters, Grandson, Becky Hill, Tomlinson, Big Thief, Fontaines D.C, Yard Act, Wednesday, Joker Out, Blondshell, Pip Blom, Zoe Wees, Warhaus, Dagny. (17) of 35.

Then you have things like Overmono, Fred, Meute, L'imperatrice, Nia Archives, or Four Tet, and they are not the tipically Colloseum acts at all, and they'll probably play main or a38. They have 2 electronic stages, totally understandable they have a lot of electronic music.

My point, from an electronic music lover, is they have so many differente electronic sub-genres, and most electronic music lovers don't like all.

I don't like techno, for instance.

Mate, electronic music is electronic music. People who dislike it dislike it regardless if it is techno, dance or trance.

Argument that lineup is not EDM heavy because Four Tet, Fred and Garrix are different style of electronic music is silly.

That is basically like me saying that a fictional lineup that has Foo Fighters, The Cure, Flogging Molly, Maneskin and The Offspring is not rock heavy because they are not same style of rock.

Happy New Year! Leaks said that they're negotiating with QOTSA and The Strokes for the rock headliner spot.

But I don't really see QOTSA as headliners, they're not that popular... they barely sold out Budapest Park few years ago.

QOTSA headlined in 2014 at a time when they were perhaps less popular than now...

Taking your fictional example, I like bands from your list, and I hate others. The Cure and Maneskin sound totally different to me, same thing with Offspring.  They appael for totally different targets. Same thing happens with the electronic names from the line-up. Four Tet will be so boring for hardcore Martin Garrix fans.

"People who dislike it dislike it regardless if it is techno, dance or trance" there are so many kind of different electronic names in the line-up, if you listen carefully, maybe you can find something you like. If you want to think everything is the same, it's your choice.

My point was "not to say" EDM to all electronic names, that's it. Was more like a technicality. We have like 50 % of electronic music right now (we have two stages for that, it's normal) but not 3/4 as you said

Agreed. I didn't know a lot of them on announcement day but have listened to them all over the festive period and I'd say it's 50/50.

The one disappointment I've had is that the acts I should like, as they are my kind of genre, I just can't get into - I'm thinking Big Thief, Wednesday and Pip Blom. They just seem a little....meh. Which is a shame.

Saw Big Thief at Sziget in 2019, don't know who decided to put them to play main stage, but they seemed so out of place there.

Exactly. I'm kinda okay with these names exactly, even know and like a few Pip Blom tracks, so maybe it's going to be fine, except Big Thief, I need more time for that, and I'm also not sure about Wednesday, I kinda like them but I need to listen some more tracks. But these things happen, I remember putting Viagra Boys, Palaye Royale, Inhaler on my playlist, as those are the kind of things I would normally listen to, but somehow it just wasn't clicking.

It's also interesting that it seems like we've had Nova Twins in 2022 and I don't even remember them, so I probably listened to them as I usually do listen to everyone from these announcements and didn't care. And now I listened to their latest album and they're one of the names I'm the most excited about. So I guess even these things change.

We were there in 2019 and I have no recollection of Big Thief playing, which tells you what impact they had on me in the build-up to the event. The fact I would've listened to them before the festival, yet have no recollection of doing so, tells you something I think!

My son (who was 11 at the time) and I watched Nova Twins in 2022. They were excellent. They played one of the small stages and there was only maybe 150 people there so plenty of space. My son's favourite act of the whole festival in fact.

This is where i stand: Electronic / non-electronic ratio aside, this list of live artist (so far) is quite disappointment for such a festival.

Biffy Clyro / Snow Patrol / Maneskin / Korn / Queens of the Stone Age / The Offspring / Idles / Keane / Motionless in White / Wet Leg / Pixies / Inhaler / ...

Here are some example of bands touring in Europe in August. And that's only the ones I'm aware of ! Because I believe many European acts could be available if they were asked.

My point is : Sziget 2024 is, so far, a Discount Edition. The new owners + the booker are f**king us up with their low line-up budget.

I don't think they're more popular now than back then... their newer songs are 5-10 times viewed less on YouTube than their hits from about 14-15 years ago (No One Knows, Go with the Flow, Little Sister, Make It With Chu - all these have more than 30M views each, No One Knows has 170M). Their only newer track that clinched 10M views on YouTube is The Way You Used to Do.

I'd say that even Paramore are way more popular than them.

Also, in comparison, The Strokes have 12 songs with over 20M views on YouTube, of which 2 tracks were released 2 years ago. Also, they have 3 hits with more than 100M views, one of them is Reptilia that has 215M.

Just reread Leaks' last comments. We're definitely starting with a clean sheet for our guessing game as Leaks said "no" everytime Lana was mentioned, but confirmed in other posts that negotiations are ongoing. So clues and no's were definitely for the first round only.

IMHO the problem with festival lineups (Sziget in particular) is that they probably think about views like you did and not about quality... then we would have to see in which areas of the world are these views and from people of what age these views are made

Agreed. In 2022, Leaks told us we weren't getting Tame Impala, and then we suddenly did.

Negotiations are obviously ongoing with some acts but, if these are unsuccessful, they will need to look elsewhere and there's only a finite number of acts available.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, there are actually some pretty decent BANDS (not DJs) around in August. Let's hope we get a few.

Are Snow Patrol and Keane meant to be examples of exciting names? 😂

Half of these are WELL past their sell by date

I really don't understand these complaints about these DJ announcements, which will be 100% sure Colosseum/Party Arena artists... What else you can expect on these electronic music stages? Strokes headlining Party arena? Biffy Clyro takes over Colosseum? In addition, have to say that these first phase DJs (Artbat, Richie, Honey Dijon, Dom Dolla, Argy..) are very strong bookings, IF you are in to these genres. If you are not, then why bother to complain about these Party Arena/Colosseum booking? 😃

lets just hope Sziget knows what a lot of ppl think about the lineup so far and give us more names soon...

I think we'll get something mid-Feb. I can't imagine they'd want to wait too much beyond then. Even if that means we get three announcements.

They must know that the current headliners and sub-headliners are not strong enough to attract lots of average casual festival attendees.

many of these names will be at A38 stage...even last year, Sziget began to fill the A38 with dj's acts, more than before.

To me, Collosseum and Party Arena are enough for dj's, eletro music etc... so I would like Sziget to let the A38 stage out of this genre.
