Muse really not done much (successfully) and got smaller since last playing. Maybe a few more years

Oh I agree but if they wanted someone safe so they’re not left in the SZA situation again Muse would go down well and get a bigger crowd despite not being at the top of their game.

But its music marketed at teenagers predominantly. I'm nearly 40 and also not a great fan of pop music.

She can definitely sing though and Driving licence is a good song.

I just don't get excited by these kinds of acts. I wasn't at Glasto this year but Dua Lipa looked as dull as dishwater on BBC. It's way too formulaic and over rehearsed.

She'd be no higher than Pyramid sub for me if I was in charge.

go see Taylor Swift. Its 3 hours of formulaic and rehearsed. Coldplay too.

its nice to know that people want artists to sound like sh*t or just be off the cuff the whole time. Somehow anyone worth a damn has to appear to be drunk or do random shite during a gig to be seen as genuine. Oasis is gonna be ridiculously rehearsed into oblivion but theyre ok cause Noel and Liam will say a couple of different things every gig, its hilarious.

Muse are probably am act that at Glastonbury I'd potentially give a go if nothing was on. Like li wouldn't leave early if they were like last time Underworld was a clear enough favourite at the time which was great.

As a big Muse fan, I'd be wary of seeing them at Glastonbury again because of my recent experience of seeing people headline for the second or 3rd time being far inferior to the previous gigs. Muse 2016 was nowhere near as good as 2010 for me (though not bad by any means), but I actively regret seeing Arctic Monkeys in 2023 and Coldplay in 2024 after 2013 and 2016 respectively. I just think seeing Muse with a smaller crowd of talkers would be difficult.

What could they do differently? Apart from maybe utilising the lasers, fireworks etc more

Yeah, I remember a New Yorker or similar article a decade or so back watching Springsteen prepare for his tour and him spending the afternoon practicing 'spontaneous' knee-slides. The idea that anybody at that level is really going to go off-piste is madness. Nick Cave's foray's into the crowd are planned and considered to the nth degree. Nothing wrong with it, of course, but lets not pretend it doesn't happen. Look at The Who using guitar lines from earlier shows on the tour. There's too much money at stake, and crucially, too much conservatism amongst the ticket-buying public to allow anything genuinely chaotic. Punters would be on the blower to their lawyers and suing before they'd reached the parking lot.

Had a terrible spot for AM last year but I’d never seen them before and I really enjoyed it.

I’m all for a bit of pop, bit of rock, bit of whatever but happy to skip the pyramid if it doesn’t appeal to me. In fact it’s quite nice not having 3 headliners that you want to see.

I think O-Rod is deserving of a spot

Seen Taylor Swift earlier this year at the Eras tour and she was brilliant tbf. Would be happy with her headlining a night.

Every act is rehearsed.

There is a difference though between the type of performance you'd reasonably expect to see on the little girls tuned in to on the Graham Norton, or Paul O Grady show, and the kind of act you see at a festival.

There really should be very little crossover between acts that your little sister mimes into a hairbrush while jumping on the bed, and crowds singing along at a coming of age festival.

Muse being nine years down the line is long enough to come back. It just does feel a little bit stale against other shouts, for me at least.

But I'd be there bellowing away to Starlight

I still think they're likelier to turn up elsewhere. If they're on tonight's Download announcement, it's absolutely ruling them out.

Not sure where else you'd put them. BSTHP? Reading if Foos drop out, perhaps? I know they did Isle of Wight 2022 but that's not an option this time given they've dropped out. Pretty sure that they still draw a crowd - I went to the MK Bowl show 16 months ago or whenever and there were by estimates a good 50-55,000 there for a show on at the same time as Elton John's Glasto gig being on TV, plus more than the 45k Chase & Status drew at the same place (a figure C&S said themselves, which surprised me as I thought they'd done the full 65k).

Secret set of just an hour of the big hitters would be cool, mind.

Isn't the ideal that a band is so rehearsed and frankly good that they can get away with a little bit of spontaneity if required. Or if that is just too much risk then they do a club night where they can jam for hours immediately afterwards. Prince I'm looking at you...

That's how I've always thought of it.  I'm sure certain aspects are planned/rehearsed, but I've definitely seen improvisation live from some bands - often extended guitar breaks and solos where you can see the rest of the band waiting anticipating key changes and waiting for the lead to nod them back into the bridge/chorus/whatever.

but its too choreographed and rehearsed. Its not allowed anywhere that camping chairs are allowed. Lol

So how are they marketing these gigs. Women playing guitars seems like a bad thing
