To be fair, if I was in a band on hiatus and the opportunity to headline Glastonbury came up, then I'd probably be ringing everyone suggesting now might be a good time to reunite..

Totally agree. I just think it was maybe that comment that made us assume they weren’t part of the conversation this year. Seems like something’s maybe shifted based on the rumours today though

I thought they usually announced in January so this would be early for them.

They struggling if all they can come up with is 1975 and sam fender... has it lost its pull for big artists and lower prices? 

 

The headliners don't matter much to me like the festival is so much more but these rumours are very poor and sound desperate

Going by the last couple of festivals, Coachella will set the bar for the Glastonbury Other Stage headliners.

Yeah Coachella aren't setting bar for anything except for the prices. That bar went 10 years ago.

Tells you a lot doesn't it. Didn't sell out weekend 1 I don't believe and you could buy weekend 2 definitely didn't sell out.

Yes Glastonbury has lost its huge act pull generally. They got Coldplay purely because they know the festival and get it over time but I think we are very much going purely into arena territory. Friday this yesr was arena, Friday replacement is arena. Saturday presumably is arena with the eventually probable Sunday headliner the only one that's arena/stadium borderline. Definitely wasn't an act wanted this side of the fallow year as it shows overall weakness.

Going by previous years at Coachella, the bar will be 400 metres away from the stage and you'll be locked in a pen until you finish your $18 Coors Light

I agree... ideally I like to see at least one Pyramid headliner (didn't see any last year) but I often have an even better time with the Avalon or Acoustic headliners as you're closer to the stage.  I dashed round to Neville Staple at Avalon after Elton finished in 2023, and had a much more fun time there at Avalon!  I love to see a Pyramid headliner next year, but in all fairness I can't think of anyone who is touring and available who would be a must-see... still hoping for Pulp, but that's looking unlikely!

To be fair 2023 is the only year I can remember where all 3 headliners were stadium sized. Arena acts headlining Glastonbury is the norm. Eilish, Lamar, The Cure, Killers in 2019, Stormzy, Sheeran in 2017, even Adele and Muse in 2016 were all in the middle of Arena tours.

 

It does seem inevitable that stadium acts doing it will be very rare in the future. The money on offer elsewhere is too much.

It comes to something when I tune into this into thread and I am excited for 1975 when other posts are all about fender, OR and Fred. 1975 are a cut above all 3 IMO but still well short of headliner material

I haven't read back too far here, and I hate to pile on to all of the sh*t news and rumours of The 1975, but that "nuclear" pop star with stadiums coming... Not Rihanna.

 

The playing field looks weaker by the day when it comes to headliners.

 

I think we're potentially looking at Olivia actually being the biggest name of the three.

The 1975, Olivia and Fender wouldn't shock anyone at this point.
