2025 Headliners

Stuck a setlist up months ago amid dull speculation for what it might look like. If there's a new record around, the question will be more whether it comes before or after the festival itself.

Before? You probably get four or five new ones.

After? You maybe get one or two, a la Arctic Monkeys in 2013.

Also not listed as a rumour on the efestivals site, which is making me wonder about them headlining. They are currently on a break at the moment.

Will try for tickets if they are a headliner. Would also like Fontaines DC. The others rumoured acts don't interest me at all. I would not even watch it on TV.

Have we got 3 strong Headliner rumours? Can sumeone catch me up?

Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Fender look pretty locked in. Then The 1975 are currently the favourites for the third spot, but with no confirmation they’re even active next summer I’m not personally convinced.

A once off 1975 show would be brilliant. Matty Healy is a superb frontman. He would appreciate the festival.

The festival has definitely lost it's spark over the last few years. Artists recreating the tour and bringing the whole stage over.

I know a lot of people don't think The 1975 but they will prove people wrong. Like a Robbie Williams Knebworth moment which was broadcast on live TV.

They’d be great and it’s pretty nuts that 2025 marks nine years since they last played. Just the question of it interrupting/ending their ‘hiatus’ is all. Although then again next autumn will be three years since they released an album which seems like long enough really.

Sam Fender locked in how? Do we have news besides his other tour/festival dates?

Discord feel they have decent sources that suggest him. It's going to be 3 of The 1975, Olivia, Fender and Fred for me. I've a feeling though that the Fred info is old and it'll be Fender. If you go by The Post then I reckon Fender is their option as it may be all they have left. I don't think they would choose those 3 unless they needed to.

I wouldn't call a trio of The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975 bold, per se, but I would possibly call it forward-facing. It features a pair of British artists who cut their live teeth with an ascent through festivals, and possibly safeguards them as future picks, while it adds one of the biggest young American stars of the moment, complete with more obvious crossover appeal.

Now watch all this chat be absolutely nonsense.

An O’Rod, 1975 and Fender trio doesn’t really do it for me although I appreciate that for others it will be a dream trio.

O’Rod is the only one I’d watch and I will bet my left testicle she will be on the same time as 3 other headliners I want to see on the other stages but hey - that’s life!

There is a chance for the undercard and other stage headliners to be epic this year and I have my fingers crossed.

Now I have tickets I can really begin to be excited.

Should of course be Sam Fender for one of those The 1975s there, but the edit function has mysteriously vanished.

usually how it goes. Again, it was bound to happen and likely to be more often the case within the next few years when no more 70 year olds left to book and the generation of acts before them hang it up so you gotta get everyone between 25-35 to headline.

i think what does need to happen is more of the old nurturing way for artists. Let them start out on small stages and they actually work their way up over the course of say 3 festival appearances. I mean Dua was actually right on that trajectory pre covid. Bbc intro, woodsies, other headliner and then pyramid. That was gonna be across 8 years. Ok, looks reasonable and well deserved. Now its if somebody has one good appearance on a notably good slot then theyll be demanding a headline next time up. Its tough out there these days. You are forced to get as big as possible as fast as possible before people move on or you fail yourself.

ill take anything to console myself right now.

its literally optics. Everyone just wants their trio to appeal to them so they can take pride in that lineup. I cringed having Ed Sheeran headlining in 2017, but what can ya do. Radiohead and Foos made up for it. So what did it matter. Thats the trade off.

I have to agree that I would never outright purchased tickets to a festival in normal cases with those 3 as the headline options.
