2025 Headliners

After the SZA disaster I'd be shocked if the headliners are Rodrigo, Fender and 1975.

They'd need someone from a different generation to mix it up and add a bit of strength. A proven headliner like Muse or a legend like Stevie Wonder makes a lot more sense.

Probably a few if you dig deep - Skunk Anansie, Elvis Costello etc. The quickest fall from grace was probably the Manics; headlined in 99, subbed Moby in 2003

Chems (by choice) did similar i think too with 2000 pyramid then 2004 other

Have to agree about 1975 I'd rather them not headline but they are headline level objectively.

I'm just upset it looks like Fred is out of the running haha

It's the same sort of situation there for me, I've no interest at all in Fred Again and wouldn't see him, but would be more than happy if he got the headline slot as that also seems fresh and exciting.

I love that Glasto can give acts that slight push up into headline status when some people believe they're not quite there yet. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't but I love that as a festival they're willing to try.

I'd much rather they book headliners who some mignt feel are not quite there yet, but are definitely in their ascendancy than a band like Muse who are headline level by default but absolutely by no metric in any thing close to ascendancy.

SZA was the imperfect storm though. Your rank-and-file armchair punter will definitely have heard of Olivia Rodrigo ("that new pop princess the kids keep banging on about!"), Sam Fender ("he reminds me of a young Bruce Springsteen, that boy!") and The 1975 ("my god, I loved Auf Wiedersehen, Pet!").

All three are massive commercially friendly acts with tons of bangers who have played the fest before to huge crowds. Nothing like SZA. With the possible exception of Sam’s health concerns they’d also all represent reliable bookings willing to commit this side of Christmas, which would probably be a relief to GFL after last year’s chaos.

Sure they’d love to get a huge name like Stevie or Madge but they can’t force them to play at gunpoint.

I agree, I think 1 of these 3 is off and was a replacement for the other - maybe 1975 replacing Fender (who was replacing Fred). And there will be an Eminem/Rihanna/Stevie Wonder in there, or a name of similar size/age that hasn’t been discussed yet. I kinda don’t believe the festival can’t get even one considering what they’ve pulled in the past.

I may have regional bias, though. Where I live Sam Fender is playing my local rock club in 2025 (capacity 1500 people), so it’s hard to fathom him headlining Glastonbury. I realize he’s much, much bigger in England but does Glastonbury book acts that are only famous in country like that? The last time I remember that was Stormzy but that felt a lot more specific, like it was a kinda political choice and highlighting a unique and cool British music genre - that’s not at all the case with Fender.

Sure, all 3 are decent acts that can headline Glasto now. I don't think all 3 should in the same year. Sure, you can't always get a McCartney or an Elton John to headline, but someone alongside 2 of those would be a much more rounded set of headliners imo.

It would also be better for the 2 that did headline, there'd be less pressure and negative attention on them.

I assumed Kasabian had absolutely no clout internationally.

Where did the Eminem chat even come from? With Rodrigo, Fender, The 1975, we've had leaks from the other place, and multiple at that.

As for Eminem, can't see anything, but it is a very busy thread, this one.

So realistically, no one has anything solid atm, its just people hyping up who they want to headline. Nothing wrong with that.

What would be your dream 3 headlines for this year?

Dream:

Olivia Rodrigo - U2 - AC/DC

Hope based on who is about atm:

Sam Fender - Olivia Rodrigo - Muse

I get all that but I certainly don’t think it would be a trio that would keep Emily up at night. If there was no reduction in T-Day demand after the headliners in 2014 and 2024 then there won’t be after a trio of headliners that could reasonably announce stadium runs without looking ridiculous. If this is the best they can do this year then it’s absolutely fine. Particularly if it means more money to spend on the undercard, which was a bigger issue than SZA last year anyway.

I think there were rumors of Eminiem from both here and the Discord from different people who have had “inside information.” But some of those rumours came with “he’s been offered” or “he’s been approached” or “final negotiations” not actually booked. But this was now around a month or so ago so and we’ve stopped hearing his name lately, which makes it seem like it maybe went away.

The 1975 chat coming up last week still felt like a blindside. Always maintained they're big enough to do it handily, but it just felt so leftfield.

If the odds had absolutely tanked to the level they did, I'd have taken it with a much bigger pinch of salt.

Doesn't take much for the odds to tank in this market. Doesn't take much for them to pull the market completely, tbh, like SkyBet did.

Furious I missed those big 1975 odds but the last time I checked - UniBet had also pulled the market. Hard to keep up

This is perfect, two great party acts and one to appease the picnic blanket posse, middle aged rock dads and chin scratchers

thought I'd make a concession to the annoying party party morons whilst I take my picnic blanket and go watch some chin scratching stuff in the middle aged arena.

Interesting. Missed that entirely in the end, I think. Not one who I would have expected to be that high on the Glastonbury hit list too, given his fairly middle-of-the-road live reputation.
