I'd be curious to see this list for the UK specifically - a lot of these artists are undeniably huge but will never be seen on the pyramid stage

Yet at the same time, I could spend ages looking for someone to tell me a song they like by *checks notes*, Peso Pluma or Feid. Charli's pretty massive at the moment in the UK and US, but with quite a specific demographic of under 30s I'd say. As someone in that camp, I don't know of any music-interested friends that don't listen to Brat fairly regularly Edited Thursday at 11:38 AM by JayDiesel
steviewevie
She's not the biggest in the world, but she's one of the biggest british artists. Stick her on there, I think she'd do a much better job than the other predicted headliners.
CaledonianGonzo
Big difference between 'music-interested friends' and the general public as a whole. For better or worse her music is just a little too spiky and uncompromising. She doesn't have an Espresso or a Good Luck, Babe.

Rose-Colored Boy
But yes, all the available evidence backs up the feeling that Charli’s moment in the sun is very much a bubble thing, which doesn’t make for a sensible Glastonbury headliner (and might well be over by this summer anyway). Obviously all subjective - I didn’t like it very much. Although if they played a headline set and played 6/7 songs from it - it wouldn’t go down too well. That’s the point I’m making. With legacy headline acts (and I’m not ever comparing muse to the Rolling Stones) …. 99% of people just want to sing along to the hits

across97
I really can't see Charli XCX being the first name they call up, especially after SZA gate last year. Sure, huge surge in popularity this year, but only for a very niche demographic. Would be a desperate last ditch move if she's booked as a headliner IMO and this is coming from a fan. Sure, it will be a fun set, full of energy and enjoyable for those who are into it. Amongst casuals and the standard Glasto goer, I think they'd be relatively dis-interested (making a sweeping stereotype here, but don't think I'm miles off). I feel a little sorry for Glasto here actually, under the microscope this year more than other years I feel. Just been publicly insulted by a headliner they were talking to, and now got circa 2 months to book someone else, with the expectation from ticket holders and press being an A lister. Real naff position to be in imo.

Different story if it had been Liv messing about like this.

wro_lap
I don't think Charli would go as disastrously as SZA did, but SURELY they have Sam Fender warmed up to come off the bench. It's a banker, he'd definitely love to do it and would get a healthy crowd
JonSnow
After bumping up a booked other stage headliner last year it would be laughable if they do so again this year. They had the money ready to spend on Neil Young, so go out and spend it.

I say that as someone who was really hoping he’d do it. If he’s an acceptable headliner in terms of crowd size then so are e.g. Pulp
