2025 Headliners

Now Young is out, I can see Charli XCX getting bumped to headline the Pyramid if she's already on the radar. People might not like it but she's the biggest artist in the world at the moment and could easily be justified to top the bill.

Then they'd (if everyone's predictions are right) need an Other Stage headliner, which is much easier to fill. Maybe Noah Kahan or Paramore?

On what metric?!

You may be saying this in jest, but I think there's something in it.  Even the biggest songs off of Brat haven't really crossed over into the mainstream consciousness.

I'd be curious to see this list for the UK specifically - a lot of these artists are undeniably huge but will never be seen on the pyramid stage

Yet at the same time, I could spend ages looking for someone to tell me a song they like by *checks notes*, Peso Pluma or Feid.

Charli's pretty massive at the moment in the UK and US, but with quite a specific demographic of under 30s I'd say. As someone in that camp, I don't know of any music-interested friends that don't listen to Brat fairly regularly

Glastonbury tried to book Neil Young when he's not even popular, Glastonbury's so behind the times!

But yes, all the available evidence backs up the feeling that Charli’s moment in the sun is very much a bubble thing, which doesn’t make for a sensible Glastonbury headliner (and might well be over by this summer anyway).

The album they released in 2023 was excellent.

Obviously all subjective - I didn’t like it very much.

Although  if they played a headline set and played 6/7 songs from it - it wouldn’t go down too well. That’s the point I’m making.

With legacy headline acts (and I’m not ever comparing muse to the Rolling Stones) …. 99% of people just want to sing along to the hits

I really can't see Charli XCX being the first name they call up, especially after SZA gate last year. Sure, huge surge in popularity this year, but only for a very niche demographic. Would be a desperate last ditch move if she's booked as a headliner IMO and this is coming from a fan.

Sure, it will be a fun set, full of energy and enjoyable for those who are into it. Amongst casuals and the standard Glasto goer, I think they'd be relatively dis-interested (making a sweeping stereotype here, but don't think I'm miles off).

I feel a little sorry for Glasto here actually, under the microscope this year more than other years I feel. Just been publicly insulted by a headliner they were talking to, and now got circa 2 months to book someone else, with the expectation from ticket holders and press being an A lister. Real naff position to be in imo.

The one benefit being that most of the general public don’t really give a sh*t about Neil Young so the expectations for a replacement won’t be completely unmeetable. Different story if it had been Liv messing about like this.

The Other Stage has one of the best atmospheres of any festival stage I've been to. Confidence Man this year, CRJ last year, Foals in 2022 - I could go on. The amount of absolute party sets that place hosts every year is phenomenal

NIN were amazing last time they headlined the Other.

Glastonbury would have to work hard to find someone who’ll get a smaller crowd than Young would have done. I say that as someone who was really hoping he’d do it. If he’s an acceptable headliner in terms of crowd size then so are e.g. Pulp

I like Charli but she is not the biggest artist in the world. Not even close.
