There’s nothing to indicate he’s about though, is there?

No idea, not heard anything either way.

He was one of the first names I heard way back when, but it came with a warning to not rely on the info.

If he was in the picture at any point this time (think he was last year?) then I'm sure he'd get the call now

Oh, I thought it was the whole shebang these days. Forgive me.

Either way, Young doing himself no favours here, I'd argue.

I don’t think the live coverage is as ‘live’, or in full as we perhaps imagine. Case in point; Paul McCartney was seemingly ‘live’, and the BBC showed it all - apart from In Spite of all The Danger (which was included on the iPlayer set). The coverage all flowed seamlessly, so there must have been time to edit out the one song without making it obvious, so presumably the ‘live’ coverage must have started about 10 minutes after Macca.

Point being; there must be some leeway being shown by either or both parties. The Stones obviously got their way, NY presumably was having none of it.

At this point I think they just give him a call every year and say “fancy it?”

Someone who is always in the frame but one reason or another never bites. Must be on a permanent wish list for the Eavii hence it’s always “he’s possible, but not reliable” gets banded with him.

With how much has came out so early from this year I can’t imagine it’ll be long before we start to hear about the Neil Plan B, given the assumed nature of negotiations you’d think they would have had a Plan B in mind and didn’t just start scrambling ideas on a board when he eventually pulled the plug.

A degree of interest to mull - how many other artists would be ruled out by the BBC must-show-in-full clause that is (seemingly) the stumbling block for Neil Young?

If that was a clause stuck in during the pandemic, might figure that Taylor Swift could have balked at that, for example.

Think a plethora of your American mega-pop acts - Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna - would also balk at the request, along with a few of the older rock acts. Not sure Springsteen would consent to a full show, for example - or at the very least, Jon Landau would be issuing big compensation demands for it.

the issue with taylor is that she isnt in control of her music in full yet. Theres a clause in the language of the masters that says the owner controls the broadcast usage of a song. Its never really enforced per say as usage is in good faith by all accounts when its done and nobody ever busts out a cease and desist. So the theory is that she wouldnt do it because ( at the time ) scooter braun would just use the power he had to stop that and she would have to cut those songs from her setlist. Since theres only 2 albums left to re release, she will be in the clear really soon. That also applied to her not performing at the super bowl ( at the time ) and even coachella. I doubt she doesnt want it to be not shown cause she wants to make sure everyone sees her. And considering the Bbc is now letting a few sets be viewed by outsiders then its all the better for her anyway. Cause imagine thw headlines when the bbc website crashes due to the traffic. All the swifties will be jumping for joy cause she is the most bestest musician in the universes existence because she broke a website.

Pure speculation, but I think there are still a few people in Emily's book (seemingly) available that she'd be approaching:

  • Stevie - I agree that he probably gets asked every year and there's no harm in asking, and hopefully, he'll eventually say yes
  • Muse - playing summer festival shows and would be able to fly in for the Sunday (would perhaps require O-Rod to swap from Sunday to Saturday if that info is reliable)
  • Lady Gaga - new album out soon, headlining Coachella and expected to be touring in the summer, has also expressed interest in the past in headlining the festival
  • Billie Eilish - yes, has performed very recently but had a well received set and another successful album since; there is a gap in her touring schedule in Europe this summer which could allow her to play
  • U2 - in a similar way that The Killers returning to headline in 2019 was a redemption slot, they could be offered a redemption slot if they follow through the touring rumours that have been hanging around over the last couple of months (supposedly having dates on hold with various stadiums in Europe)
  • Taylor Swift - would be a long shot but would be the biggest coup that Glasto could achieve and she's in the phone book
  • Sam Fender - maybe not the international major act that would bring significant clout to the festival but would attract a large crowd and would, in all likelihood, knock it out of the park

I can't see Sabrina or Charli realistically being bumped up to headliner status at this stage - too many other options...I think they'd be more likely to do a 'TBA' a la 2015 than bump them up right now.

festival is sold out, it shouldnt matter. If its Charli or Sabrina then theyre doing the right thing. Brat Summer 2.0 or Espresso campiness. If the poster says Tba for a headliner then thats indicative of a much larger issue. You cant have that on your hands right now. As been mentioned, if they go 2 years in a row and into the fallow with whats considered "weak" in terms of lineup or headliners then it shows that nobody is truly immune from these problems of booking headliners anymore. And that their formula needs to be looked at. Get the best names for the moment and they need to stop chasing the dragon cause its not in their reputation to do so.

Those now seem to have cooled off. During the promo trail for the recent How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb remaster release, they seemed to be saying plans and new material were still being worked on, with talk that this is a Q4 2025 release at the earliest, and therefore touring for 2026 at the earliest.

Charli who is headlining Parklife would be a silly decision.

Macca wasn’t live. It was about an hour behind.

Would absolutely love U2. One of my bucket list acts and a greatest hits set would be an all timer for me.

Sabrina is crap. Really, really crap.

Hype is bonkers. Also, no way has she got enough for a headline set. Neither does Charli either.

Why do both have 90 min shows on their current solo tours. Thats plenty. Stormzy and Kendrick both did 80 mins and nobody batted an eye.  dont change the standards for the girls and the boys.

Still funny that the festival had the british white guy with a guitar booked as a headliner and then dumped him for an old canadian with a guitar only to be shown the door and have to go back to the first option. Thats some 4d chess. Still not as bad as Coachella dumping AND paying My Chemical Romance to drop out of headlining in favor of Frank Ocean.

Just because you can do something for 90 minutes doesn't mean it's any good. Kendrick could have played for 2.5h and been fine. Stormzy couldn't. Stormzy was a decent show that had zeitgeist.

Sabrina doesn't have that. Chappell does. There's your equality. Chappell would sh*t on Sabrina from a high height.

Also, I presume you're alluding to Sam Fender. He wasn't booked.
