I really love the idea that the festival is in an era where they can quite happily have the likes of Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo (presumably) sharing the bill. Truly multigenerational event at this stage. The music world is a better place if fans of Rodrigo are being exposed to Shakey and vice versa. It’s all just good sh*t. Gutted not to be going this year! +

The questions here are if they have the will or money to do so. Its easier to bump someone up when you're already sold out for example......... SZA last year or fill with a regular such as Muse, so effectively Emily would have to Want the hassle of finding a replacement. I am a fan of Neil Youngs music but in honesty i think it was not a great choice to headline the festival. I saw him last time he headlined ( i was in the field) and although it was great for me - a lot of people didn't hang around. I know it would be a last chance to see a legend headline but in terms of singalong hits, unfortunately he's no Elton or McCartney or arguably even Stevie wonder or Billy Joel for that matter. I think the fact they were in talks with Young suggests there isn’t a McCartney/Elton level headliner available. There usually isn’t. across97
Does that count as a self confirmed then!? Crazy twist and wonder how Glastonbury now feel about not only comments but the subsequent back peddling and him self confirming what is presumably a headline set, very entitled imo. If the crowd doesn't fill the Pyramid field, I think his ego alone will.
stuie
😂😂😂 one of the most inventive headliner announcements ever! Slag off the bbc and Glastonbury for a day or two then say you’re playing after all. Beats Elton’s rockets and Radioheads grass painting!

Spindles
I have to say, that tweet is absolutely perfectly judged. Emily is a consummate professional.
kalifire
Weirdest headliner announcement strategy I can remember, but fair enough. Plenty of other stages, etc. 👍 Edited January 3 by kalifire
itsfomas
Oh well. Hopefully Charli is still up against him on the other.

Ayrshire Chris
Who is going to tell Muse to stand down?
Spindles
Muse couldn't headline my local paper these days, never mind a festival the size of Glastonbury.
mufcok
What a bizarre set of events. Handled well by Emily, but I'd be interested to know exactly what's happened. .. fee increased? 😅

Presumably somebody of his musical status wouldn’t throw a public meltdown and slate the festival he claims to love, then a few days later say ‘oops sorry, my bad’ and confirm he’s headlining. I mean, would he? Taken at face value, Neil comes out of this looking like a diva who got his own way. Taken as a plan, it’s plain weird. itsfomas
I'll be honest I know nothing about NY. But as a non fan it's made him come across rather unlikeable, even more so that he is still doing it.
