I don't know if this shows my age, how uncultured I am or what... But on reflection, I do not think I know a single Neil Young song. Am I being silly or missing something obvious?

I actually think I'd be more likely to recognise a SZA song than one of his at this point

Do you have some sort of phone or laptop that you can stream music through? If not that then some kind of membership of a record library?

Neither.  With the volume of recorded music available and the number of ways to consume it, entirely feasible you'd have missed something!

Having said that, I would suggest playing either Heart of Gold or Rocking In The Free World to see if they ring a bell at all.

I still feel as though I'm largely clued up on mega artists, though. I'm 30, so I don't think it's unreasonable for me to have expected to have known some Neil Young.

I gave a few tracks a play, including both of those you mentioned, and I honestly have never heard these songs in my life.

Who is going  to tell Muse  to stand down?

Their last tour was pretty much sold out all the way through and they had like the 5th highest grossing tour of 2023. Their last album still got UK No1 (7th one). I love that everyone has such an issue with them even though they continue to put on better stage shows than most current artists. There a household name in the music industry, one of the most successful British rock bands of the 21st century. So yes they are definitely not at the peak of their career anymore but seen as their 30 years in that is hardly unsurprising. They still do 2 nights at the O2 Arena, most of their US and Mexico and European shows were sell outs. I think a bit more respect needs to go onto their name, they have established themselves are one of the best of all time and even 30 years on they still put on phenomenal stage shows.

Fair enough!

All three are headliner level, they just are. No amount of mental contortions will change that. Whether they appeal to any individuals subjective taste is down to the individual but that doesn’t affect whether they’re big enough.

Yeah and the bands that headline Truck Festival are headliner size too, doesn't mean I want to pay £400, book a week off work, spend hundreds on travel and accom to go to Truck. Like it or not, Glastonbury is meant to be the best. This isn't the best. Music is subjective, but what isn't subjective is popularity. There are far more popular acts that would have been a bigger spectacle than probably 4 out of the 6 mooted headliners. Even if I don't like them! I'm not bothered about me, I just like Glastonbury being a heavyweight festival.

Muse couldn't headline my local paper these days, never mind a festival the size of Glastonbury.

Muse 2023: $92.7M, 1M Tickets Sold and 45 shows played. 20th highest grossing tour of 2023. Now everyone always talks about how they’re rubbish and yet they are still doing that. Blink 182 for example only sold 692k over 45 shows and yet people would always class them as massive. Elton John played 67 shows and sold 1.3M Tickets so actually 1M / 45 = 22k which is higher then Elton John as 1.3M / 67 = 19k.

please put some respect on Muse

It is meant to be the best, but that doesn’t always coincide with biggest. I would imagine that McDonalds is the biggest burger vendor in the world, but you wouldn’t choose to eat there would you?

I am far from being a NY fan but it does add a balance when you look at the other two headliners. Not everything has to appeal to all ages (large chunks of the SE corner or Silver Hates are of limited interest to a sizeable chunk of the paying Glastonbury audience). Balance and variety are good

They don’t need to be relevant to young people, they need crossover appeal. Otherwise you end up with disasters like SZA.

all 3 rumoured headliners will get much bigger crowds than SZA though. Proved by the fact that they have all played glastonbury previously and got much bigger crowds than SZA.
