Does seem weird given the fact they have 0 tour dates locked in for 2025

Acts have done glasto on an exclusive and there's good info - they are about all the time as well and just teased on instagram they are in the studio

This is a weird post? Why are we congratulations someone on lack of music knowledge?, it's a bit rude and to call it ignorant just because they know the songs of someone who's an influential act. If they don't, they don't and Pixies are regularly talked up being higher up than they get booked most the time these days, no I don't think they should headline.

I think we should just we a bit more accepting that some people dont know certain artists and people are allowed a view if they dont get it.

Good job this is on here and not elsewhere where it might be laughed at for getting the wrong slot.

Couldn't possibly think where you mean

(just seen them running off with the pitchforks - 'we'll get the bastard next time!')

Clearly the source it came from just got the slot wrong. Imagine it was just a passing conversation and they either just made an assumption, misheard or didn't bother delving into it.

Anyway, he's playing. On we go

I've always said I don't think it matters where it comes from, whether they get things wrong or blah blah, the info being correct as 'playing' is what's important. I don't think personally if it wasn't a favourite of Michael's the original slot would have been that much of a questionable option. Not exactly a relevant option, it's a let gets him in here before the other Michael isn't here which is fair.

The biggest shame about NY being announced is that it rules out any glimmer of hope we had for Stevie Wonder.

I don't think that's 100% necessarily true. If there was a situation of Wonder or a SZA....it's Wonder. No one is complaining of him headlining.

100% this. I don't think he even comes in to the equation if it isn't for ME.

He has legend slot written all over him for me.

If he's got concerns re the BBC broadcasting the footage do you really think he'd follow in the footsteps of Dolly and Kylie?

I still haven't quite got over the Loyle Carner info. I think he's great and I'll probably go, clash depending, but it's MENTAL he's headlining Other supposedly. Can't begin to think where the budget they've saved on booking him has gone.

Yeah - I have to agree. Headlined 'Forwards Festival' last year in Bristol - HUGE step up to headline it

How good is the info on The 1975? I think they are the w*nk choice among mooted headliners.

They've been apparently asked and naturally accepted because Fred pulled out the Friday slot. Which is extra information which adds to that slot. There is also a rumor of them doing the new festival in Newcastle. I think if it's an exclusive it's likely to be more as a pulled in one off than anything

Neil Young is 100% a headliner but heaps of people clearly don't have a clue. Myself included - I will have a listen and know he's a headliner but literally cannot name a single song beside the ones people are saying today.

All of my lot also have no clue but we are pretty young! Unfortunately most of us aren't too bothered by O Rod or 1975 either but not to worry 😄 plenty of other stuff on

This is a discussion board where discussions will be had - likely for the next 3 months on this topic so best get used to it.

EDIT: For clarity i know of the name neil young just not songs

Oh I'm well used to it. Probably the same people posting "WHO?!?!" underneath the Glastonbury instagram announcement.
Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin could reform and headline and there'd still be people who "can't get their head around" booking them, or would be calling it a "weird booking" or complaining that they're "not relevant".

I can't name an Olivia Rodrigo track beyond Good 4 U, but I don't have difficulty "getting my head around" Glastonbury booking her, or think it's a "weird booking".

Same goes to all these headliners that I think are poor bookings, in that I hope they all absolutely smash it and it retrospectively looks like a master stroke. I just wanna know where my £400 is going exactly lmao.

It's funny I didn't see this before a different comment but I wonder if the comment that mufcok heard was from someone who presumed he would be the Legend slot for the reason the likes of others would discounting that the Michael factor would get him headline?

They've done it as a one-off, but Glastonbury doesn't really deal in exclusives.

I can think of two in the past. Flo who was bumped up to headline and Jack White who subbed Metallica but I can't think who else who exclusively headlined?

Would be interesting to understand why Fred pulled out

She's struggling to shift tickets to her 25k cap. show on the 14th June?  I think she'll get a good sized crowd but I don't think the Other stage will have any crowd control issues.

I’m not sure calling a day festival ‘her show’ is fair. For one, people who are going to other festivals in the summer will be hoping she performs there or know that she is. Majority of these things (All Points East etc) don’t sell out ever or until much nearer the time as people decide closer to the time. Her UK arena tour last year was sold out months in advance and resale prices were insane.

I meant in terms of his stature amongst the patrons as a whole. For me he's similar in stature to Cat Stevens (who was brilliant btw) i just don't think Neil Young has 'headliner' appeal.

Not even remotely comparable to Yusuf. Neil is in a whole other league - and that's not an opinion, it's purely based on facts - album sales, number of releases, cultural relevance, tours, ticket sales, etc...

Chappell shouldn't be anywhere near headlining other - one album = tea time slot at best in my opinion

So do you disagree on Arctic Monkeys headlining in 2007 with one album? Or does it change because theyre men and play guitars. I thought so.

Chappell will likely have the biggest non headliner crowd of the weekend but lots of folks are in denial about it.

I imagine they'll add a couple of warm up dates (Co-Op? loads of artists seem to be playing there even among outdoor gigs)

With regards to the Charli xcx crowd, you can get a huge festival crowd but not necessarily sell tickets (im not in agreement with the previous person on this, shes huge) but my point being i have a varied music taste there are soooooo many acts i have gone to see who 1 i day to day have no interest in, 2 wouldnt pay to go and see but absolutely loved and 3 just went to be curious.

I think the other stage will be rammed, lets not forget that she shut down the whole of silver hayes last year with a dj set. She has a hugeeeeeee following and growing rapidly

That's essentially what these Lido events are - a headliner and the rest of the line-up curated by the headliner for that day *

And yes, some APE events sell ridiculously slow but I wouldn't expect that for someone who's been described on here as the biggest act in the world right now (lol) or someone who's expected to fill the Other field beyond capacity.  Just adding some balance to the hysteria really.

* Just googled to check what I was saying, and it's basically her show with her 'Brat' collaborators.

https://mixmag.net/read/charli-xcx-headline-curate-lido-festival-2025-news

On Saturday June 14, Charli will bring ‘Party Girl’ to East London along with a specially curated line-up — this includes a number of 'Brat' collaborators such A. G. Cook, Bladee, The Dare, Japanese House, 070 Shake and Kelly Lee Owens.
