People like Stormzy look weak in retrospect cause tbh on most metrics he shouldn't have headlined. Same as SZA.

Fender and O Rod are both massive. Fender is doing stadiums clearly and O Rod is one of the biggest females on the planet. Nothing to do with age imo.

I'm more taking issue with Master Shake's contention that all hell will break loose in the unprecedented situation of 3 young headliners

(when it happened relatively frequently in the 90s / early 00s and noone batted an eyelid)

Could he? Yes. Would they book him? Probably only if they were unable to secure a first or second choice

Would imagine they'd go through more than their first or second choices.

Very much a SZA sort of booking where - despite his streaming figures - he wouldn't have much audience crossover with the G.

Yeah, kinda my thoughts. Just can’t see it being Fred, Sam & Olivia despite thinking all 3 would go down and are big enough. Also can’t see Eminem, Stevie or Rihanna so I’m trying to think who else could be about to do it.

Are people still talking about that made up nonsense? 😀

Can't believe it has had the legs that it has!

Honestly

cause Sza single handedly destroyed the festivals credibility lol

hey, that Zach Bryn guy sure is popular. Wonder why. Oh, good music.

ive said it for years that when its the first young that everyones gonna freak out. Welcome to the future

Not sure if the first line is a joke but it really didn't, nobody will remember.

Only people that 'freak out' are fb users who don't even go to the festival!

He'll draw a crowd, they'll mostly enjoy it, it'll appear good on the telly. Helps rebuild after SZA, surely.

Nobody will remember that in June 2025 outside of websites with a URL that rhymes with bfestivals.co.uk

Where did that come from, out of interest?

Think missed that.

I think it’s more that we’ve had no real evidence of Fred being there , so as the gaps seem like they are reducing his chance of being there also is … he’s been kind of assumed into a position

Ah I see, makes sense. Thought some info had passed me by!

Not that I agree that Stormzy looks weak in retrospect given how good the show was.

I remember it going down as a triumph at the time with reviews and punters. Curious that 5 years later it's The Killers that actually seem to have done better out of their 2019 Glastonbury set given they've gone from resorting to Swansea and Bolton only to selling out a 12 date stadium run.

Commercially, yeah. For sure.

Still think the iconic visual of that year is Stormzy in his stab vest slinging bars and getting 100,000 people to shout f**k Boris.

Stormzy remains a cracker for me. Don't think the fact he's not quite swollen further in commercial prowess since takes away from it as a weak set.

Mumford and Sons being soporific, and then cratering from Gentlemen of the Road to arenas, on the other hand, makes it seem like a very zeitgeist-of-the-day booking to me still.

There are definitely bookings that, in retrospect, look weak for a variety of reasons - Stereophonics, Mumford, Kasabian, Arcade Fire, Skunk Anansie, Shakespeare's Sister, SZA, etc

Stormzy isn't in the same conversation

How well attended were all those acts? Always easy to look back to see whether those acts aged well, but I'd say that crowd turnup says more.

I'm sure it was a variety - subjective as it is otherwise, crowd attendance isn't the only metric thougn.

Having said that I was in the Arcade Fire crowd and it wasn't extensive.

This is the headliners thread.

Is also someone’s first post … and although we mostly talk about pyramid headliners here that’s not clear on thread tittle … personally I’d not be sure they’d be back as Jake shears was in Avalon last year ? Wasn’t he headlining that ?
