Download 2025

Whilst waiting for the announcement and checking back here every 5 minutes for some info, I was wondering if the people against Sleeptoken & Korn getting bumped up to headline, are the same people that moan about the same headliners every few years - if so, who do you think should get the bump up instead?

(just curious, nothing negative intended)

Yeah because nothing says ‘new’ and ‘different’ like bumping up Korn, you know the resident band that have played 8 times previously.

You know full well that not bumping up bands has been a criticism of Download for the past 10 years, as well as not branching out. All three headliners this year have never headlined before, one of which is a fan-favourite who have worked their way up, one of which has never played the main stage and taken the world by storm in the past year, and one of which has never played the festival before. This set of headliners is literally new and different.

I think the festival have really do that well with bump ups over the year that it's kinda hard to tell. I would find it hilarious though if Muse weren't going to tour so got palmed Download off, decided to tour and they still didn't get them.

I think this one's just a dead one now. The worst part with it for me is that if Bullet was that day for me I'd be interested but not with that headliner at all. It's probably my least favourite favourite vibe headliner option.

Didn't somebody say they believe they went back to Sleep token with more money after not getting Muse - so if all that is true, it could be that Muse then became available, but Download no longer had the budget to get them?

Green Day & Sleep Token I 100% agree with.

Korn can not be described as a ‘new’ or ‘exciting’ booking for Download. They  haven’t even released anything new since the last time they played in 2022. Bumping them up to headline doesn’t change the fact that they’ve played 8 times previously. They’re as ‘fresh’ as booking Slipknot.

Well if they had Green Day, Muse and MCR lineup up, they definitely had the budget. ST or Korn didn't cost more. Live Nation cover them, they have ££££

I think the point was booking new or different "headliners" specifically.

Yeah, this pretty much sums up my take on the whole thing and I'm a fan of Korn but not a fan of Sleep Token. Think Green Day, Sleep Token and an other like Muse or even a Def Leppard/Slipknot would've made sense just because I don't think you need 3 new headliners every year. I think Green Day being a massive band for the first time is a great booking, Sleep Token a newer band getting bumped up after showing they can do the numbers in arenas and then an another. Korn seem a little bit of a cop out and opens the doors to acts like BFMV/Deftones having the slot rather than the newer bands growing like Sleep Token/Ghost.

I'd struggle to find a better top two day than a Green Day/Weezer at Download for the last 10 years minimum for me personally. 2014 with Fall Out Boy and Hybrid Theiry in full is up there. To be honest C&S into The Prodigy was decent but I thought it just seemed too light on a bigger stage for The Prodigy and way too light for Chase.

You will definitely know much more about these topics than me, but I'm pretty sure, based on the timeline someone posted, that it was never those 3 at the same time. If this is cheap headliners, the undercard is stacked... right?.... haha!

People got the point of it being new but it's not like it's a case of ooh look who we get to see who we haven't in ages at the top. Even song wise you'll get a 2/3 more songs in a set that you'll have almost definitely heard in the previous 7 times.

A reliable post on here said this was in intended first 3 and Sleep Token were quite an early one replacement for one of Muse or MCR pulling.

If I remember off top it went:

GD, Muse, MCR

GD, Muse/MCR, Korn

GD, ST, Korn

This was as per @RedJosh who would be able to clarify that. I'm going off by what I remember. I think I remember ST being offered lower than headline so not on those first two but the next offer was to headline.

I might be missing a GD, ST, MCR line possibly.

You would hope the undercard would be stack to compensate lol but I know Download haha.

@liamglastocrowhurst1 I like Biffy way more than Korn....one of my least favourite metal orientated bands but Biffy at Download have never done it and I'd 100% support the logic that if those are your choices Korn is your safe bet. Biffy are bigger but not to that crowd. Download crowd is very niche know what they like on the whole. You could book Metallica, Maiden and and another swmi decent option every other/3 yeara and there wouldn't be an argument and that's their bread and butter.

The person I was referring to specifically used the words fresh and exciting.

The original comment I referred to used the word new and different.

Hence clarifying the assumed point.

They are neither new, fresh, different or exciting if we want to sum it up? They are a headliner because better options didn't work out, they haven't nothing else that didn't play the last two years and they don't want another year of asking 18 bands to headline....that's the gist of it.

As a headliner, they are in fact both new and different.

For someone that is that new and different, played several times and got huge crowds, they haven't half caused controversy more so than any other headliner booking I can remember in recent times on here. On social it's probably ST but I didn't even see this for FOB this year. I saw not appropriate but not a not big enough case.

I think you and I are quite literal people, while others are rather subjective. I guess we should all just go about our day, toss ourselves off, eat some cake, and reconvene later at 9pm.

Hahaha

I mean I'm not debating the merits of Korn's status as a headliner. Just simply that, in relation to the stance that Download go for the same 'headliners' - this would go against that.

Dude are you okay? Korn are undoubtedly a headliner of circumstance, doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to find it exciting. I’m excited for it. And there were bucketloads of people - here, on the forums and Facebook - who said FOB weren’t big enough. In fairness all of those people were clueless to FOB’s actual size but the point stands.
