To be honest the festival hasn't done a great deal over the vast years to sway away from the idea that's what they should be booking. Some of it is quite an extreme change like the reaction to anywhere like it would be.

Never been to download before but do they offer day tickets or do you have to get a whole weekend because the friday looks insane if this is right but the rest is very meh for me

They will do eventually yeah. Those day splits are only a guess at this point though as no days have been confirmed yet.

Thanks to the guys who shared the headliners early (I think @RedJosh & @Judas Yeast?) - myself and my wife decided to get early bird and are both really happy with the announcement. Really pleased, thank you!

I'd be surprised if this doesn't sell well. There'll be a lot of crossover between Green Day and Sleep Token fans I'd imagine.

With that initial leak yesterday I was worried that the Sex Pistols were one of the main stage headliners, so I'm equally as delighted to see that they're not! 

Worth mentioning the whole reason Download started up in 1st place was to have a heavier festival than Reading/Leeds, so obviously by going in that direction they are loosing people like myself. But I accept that's just the way it goes and I need to look at alternatives....missed out on Bloodstock though.

FIR could be seen as a controversial booking, would they do a standalone announcement for them like they did with Limp Bizkit or would they be better off pooling them into a bigger announcement later on?

It's basically become inevitable hasn't it that there is no where else to go now but the options they are having to get. I get the point that that it's started as Reading old headlines but with Download undercard still. That's wouldn't have happened though if they gradually made this move. I don't think Download will get anywhere close to selling out personally.

I'll be honest pal, I'd probably rather a half empty field that the crowds of 2023 whereby as good a time as I had, the festival space couldn't cope. It is the layout allround for a festival here. I had a better time probably drinking round camp than in the arena.

Really excited about the headliners, Green Day have been wanted for years and cannot wait to see them at last. Sleep Token have a great opportunity to make a statement like BMTH and FOB did. As for Korn, absolutely loved them in 2022 and I think should have headlined over Biffy. In terms of other acts, Spiritbox, Alien Ant Farm and Sex Pistols I like. Personally don’t get McFly but that’s me personally.

8/10 of the people who came with us this year, have booked next year based on the lineup. Download will be reet lads, festival’s not going under because the lineup isn’t for you.

Do people just lack the self-awareness to see this “it’ll sell miserably” shite is said year after year?

Line up isn't for me this year, but fair play for getting three new headliners. Bit of a rock and a hard place for them. People moan they rehash the same dusty old rock and metal bands every other year and that they need to book new headliners. They do it, and everyone goes 'not like that'. 

 

In fairness, they have leaned into a little too hard, could have maybe tried two mew and rebook. 

 

I feel like they will lose a lot of people that might have gone to download, to Outbreak.

Having looked at the line up I think we might end up getting tickets closer to the time. It's obviously a bit weaker than 2023's line up when I last went in terms of the logo bands, but I think that whilst the logo bands this year are obviously smaller (some like academy size who will have good billings) I think there's more strength in the undercard for my tastes.

 

Also, a lot more on this line up that I haven't seen previously which is always a big selling point these days when you've been bobbing around the circuit for 10+ years.

R+L weren't booking extreme metal like Meshugga,Cradle of Filth, Lorna Shore, Apocalyptica, Orbit Culture, Anaal Nakarath, Svalbard, Sylosis, Alcest, Whitechapel or Sikth even in it's heaviest years or non mainstream metal like Within Temptation or Vola. All of which is there this year. It is 100% widening what it is booking, but they are adding just as much extreme stuff as they are softening the festival just the heavy is stuff is normally lower down and the other stuff at the top of the festival.

I think this looks like a good varied rock festival tbh. I only ever properly judge a festival when the splits come out, but there's enough there that I'd consider it nearer the time.
