KSI is one of the most famous people in the world for teenagers. He would pull a gigantic crowd on name alone.

It’s sad that’s what’s the festival has become, although in the modern age where celebrity is all, not slightly surprising.

On one level I think it’s great that so many more genres now appear at Reading, on the other, as someone who always valued the festival as somehwere to already see a wide range of (what I consider to be) quality music, the widening of genres seems to have led to an embrace of simply the popular, as opposed to what should have increased overall quality.

I deffo felt there was less of a one hit wonder, TikTok trend vibe, in what I saw this year, I still feel though that even though the quantity of acts has fallen greatly since pre pandemic, the quality has not increased at all, indeed perhaps the opposite.

Maybe, as per the consumption comments, music listening habits are simply too diverse now to allow what everyone will see as a quality line up and why there are few breakout, headline worthy megastars.

His music is so f**king sh*t. Especially that newest song. I haven’t been able to go half an hour for the last several weeks without hearing some kid at work singing it.

Post Malone | Central Cee

Eminem | Chappel Roan

Muse | Kasabian

Christ, I'm having flashbacks. I guess we're on an 8 year recycle.

I mean, Muse, Kasabian and Eminem was the exact headline trio in 2017. Be something if that is such a repeating pattern.

Bad enough 2017 is going to be like 2025 in terms of it being the first year of a term where the White House will be hosting that occupant.

From the screen to the ring, to the pen, to the king....

Tbh, reading doesn't appeal to me as much as it used to. So I tend to just go for a day rather than weekend. I'm more rock rather than today's kind of music. So I'm more or less hoping for the likes of BMTH, Foos (which isn't likely now, ffs Dave!), Kasabian, Muse etc.

Who knows. Any idea on when we will get an announcement?

Sorry for the obvious questions, just I'm more on the Download festival  side of things so not got much knowledge on admin for R and L.

I believe last year’s first announcement was late November but it’s also been early December in the last.

No solid info yet, Post Malone is in Europe the week before so he seems a safe bet. Someone said Chappell Roan but can’t remember if there was any weight to it. BMTH a possibility as there no longer billed as a European exclusive at Rock am Ring/Park (they were previously). Foos were in discussions but we think that’s gone dead. I think I’m right with all that, someone correct me if I’m wrong!

Last year was 23rd, I was at my AGM everyone waiting on me to go aboard the Royal Yacht, whilst im listening to my phones radio in the hotel room as we were told the first name was Raye.

I fly back to the yacht next Thursday, so a year to the day then.

Chappell is heavily rumoured/"confirmed" for Electric Picnic in Ireland which is the weekend after, usually R&L and EP share a couple headliners as they're both owned by Festival Republic. Gerry Cinnamon in 2024 as well as Billie Eilish and The Killers in 2023 both headlined EP and R&L.

Assumed solid info was that:

Big 3:

- Foo Fighters didn't really go quiet as nothing countered it other than Grohl having an affair, but I'd assume that's worked through.

- Post Malone is in Romania in August at festivals so is very likely.

- Kasabian are around about at the moment so could very likely fill that indie spot, as they've headlined a few times before they reasonably could be expected to be that easy booking.

"Sub" Headliners:

- Central Cee has a new album coming out soon and is touring.

- Chappel Roan is meant to be "co-ing" with Hozier, so she will be 2nd and he 3rd.

- Bring me the Horizon no longer billed as exclusives elsewhere.

Outside shots: Muse, Eminem, Weekend, Stormzy, Chase and Status.

Zero chance Kasabian are one of the big headliners over BMTH who sold more than double the amount of tickets than they did on their tour.

Hardly the first musical artist to have a product come out tbh

Yup, seriously Kasabian headlining Reading festival in 2025??

Jeez desperado stuff if so. They were a stretch last time

There’s a chance they could headline above Roan with more songs to play, as per Lana/ Fred, everyone will know who’s sold the tickets when half the crowd f**k off afterwards (indeed it will be miles more stark)

Expect a blend of nostalgia and fresh energy—moments that bring you back and beats that keep you going late into the night. Neither really lend credence to the commercial aspect, both targeting very specific demographics of music fans.

I think this year R&L nailed it and realised they booked the 3 big names that appeal to basically all music fans.

Neither BMTH or Kasabian have that mass appeal sadly.

Could do

Eminem, Post Malone, Foo Fighters,

BMTH, Central Cee, Chappel Roan

That's a very "struggling to book anyone, pull out the hail marys"

Finding the Chappel Roan previous controversy hilarious now it looks like she was playing 5D chess all along.

For those unaware - She was asked by the Harris campaign to endorse Harris, she refused because she didnt support Harris. The media then tried to push her to endorse Harris based on her standing in the LGBT community but still she refused. She was slated as being a Trump supporter, and 'both sides'ing.

Now its been revealed that the Harris campaign had been paying for their endorsements, giving celebrities $1-5m. Beyonce was paid $3m to endorse Kamala for example, and now Chappel looks like she was rejecting bribery to influence an election.

Neither product has alot of sugar in it.

Bands like Blink 182 etc have been throwing dogshit merch at kids for years and branded it cool (atticus etc). This isn't anything new, its just a different form.

Totally irrelevant to anything.

What?

I didn't say it was. I simply said it was something I found funny, she's suddenly getting extra attention for something as small as stating away from politics, which has blown into an actual scandal which she kept out of.

Either way, I give her kudos for staying above the political sphere, not letting money influence her, and ensuring that she remains culturally 'timeless' without the baggage of a failed 2 month candidacy that would have always hung over her. I like it when celebrities stay out of politics.

BMTH before anyone else is such an anticlimax on the night. They were absolutely amazing in 2022. Proper energetic show. Then I trudged over to see Arctic Monkeys (who I’d never seen before so was buzzing) only to leave their set feeling a bit disappointed. I did half expect that from AM in fairness, but my god did BMTH upstage them. BMTH absolutely must close the night if they are there next year.

I missed the BMTH set, my wife was pregnant, so we got a nice view spot at Wolf Alice and stayed to watch AM who we'd grown up on in our nights in B'ham's Propaganda back in that 09-13 kind of era.

We look over and hear Ed Sheeran bellowing across the field. Gutting.

Noting people's comments on BMTH, should FR look to put them on the Sunday, in that energetic 'legacy rock' slot? May very a wet fart this year on the poster, but do well and they will cement themselves as that legacy rock act for the next 20 years. Could be the next Rage Against the Machine, these lads.

I was at Leeds so had seen Ed Sheeran had made an appearance at Reading the night before via Twitter. I turned to my mate and said “bet we get Yungblud or something”. Turns out I was right! Much rather have had Ed Sheeran haha
