3 festivals is a very small sample size to be making such bold claims, but then again you are just out of your teen years, so it seems like a long time to you.

A personal attack, great way to admit your wrong! No need to be so condescending.

Its a clear shift that festivals and other shows are getting announced earlier. Heaps of tours going on sale over 12 months before the show date.

Whether it will stay like that who knows - but for now its a clear trend

Not really a personal attack to point out that you were what? 16 or 17 going into the pandemic. The 3 announcements post pandemic make up most/all of your reference for announcements.

2015 | Nov 2014

2016 | Dec 2015

2017 | Dec 2016

2018 | Feb 2018

2019 | Nov 2018

2020 | Feb 2020

5 festivals prior to covid, 3 being announced between the end of November and the start of December.

The 3 post covid were the start of December/ end of November.

You were about 11 in 2014 when Metallica were announced? I sincerely doubt that you remember when that festivals was announced, nor any before that.

I am saying there is a clear shift across the board to earlier announcements since Covid as a result of the world changing quite a bit.

This is evident for all festivals in the UK and for gigs overall. This is the point. Who knows maybe it will be announced in January but it looks pretty unlikely given every other weekend festival will have announced by mid december!

Thanks for letting me know about Metallica being announced in 2014, not sure we knew what covid was then though.

R&L and Download forums descending into chaos recently, it’s like Musk’s Twitter without the blue ticks 😂

Maybe this is a justification to run away to BlueSky. And I'm not just saying that because I joined it yesterday to try it out.

Touching on the affordability of artists, is this a reason why there are rumours R&L and everywhere are struggling for headliners this year?

Eminem was paid $1.5m for a 5 minute social media video where he endorsed Harris.

Considering the festival earns around £15.5m gross across both sites in ticket sales, I'd assume he would charge significantly more for 2 x 1 hour performances. But even at the rate he charges for a political endorsement, that would cost 8% of the total ticket sales pre-tax and utilities.

The point being would the festival be able to afford artists like Eminem anymore?

surely the rates arent exactly the same considering the political weight the endorsement carries

a 5 min live performance at an award show would not cost the same as a 5 min video for harris

idk just think it would be a different sum

The going rates are higher these days. Everything is higher these days.

Some will play for less for a multitude of reasons. Some will feel a kinship with the festival and come back again.

I'm under absolutely no illusion that this year, Lana Del Rey was probably the highest asking price of the lot. Blink-182 wouldn't have come cheap either, but there is still the relationship there as prior headliners.

I'd still wager the two alone cost more than the other four combined.

It would be a different sum, being in a completely different chargeable field of course. Generally artists perform when they're part of a tour, or are marketing their next album, so come cheaper.

But without the new album, being a 'desperation booking' and having to fly across the Atlantic to give 2 hour long and exhaustive performances, I do wonder how much he would charge.
