However, her live shows look awesome now. Tbh I don’t care if people are lip syncing these days as long as the show is good (which Eminem isn’t, hence my aversion still). Have you seen Eminem yourself? Was he really that bad? To me he would be a massive draw if he is at R&L

Franz would've worked but they're at Truck & Tramlines so you assume that'd rule them out. Feels like having headlined it in 2006 they seem unlikely to return anytime soon to a lower position. Seems to let the backing track do most of the heavy lifting whilst he jumps about with flashy stage production. (I know this criticism has been said about Eminem though) This is what I struggled with in the past. I saw Dizzee Rascal open for Muse and he was basically a hypeman while somebody else did the actual singing and a DJ obviously did a lot of heavy lifting. Admittedly the person near to me who took a piss all over the floor didn't help the ambience.

Her 2019 performance was shocking, one of the worst I’ve seen anywhere and definitely worst at R&L. Obviously the kids don’t care but it was genuinely awful. To me he would be a massive draw if he is at R&L Yeah, twice. First time was at R&L 2013, which was my first full weekend fest with all of my mates and we were all super hyped for his set to close the weekend. Chase and Status played before him and put on what was probably the best non-headliner set I’ve ever seen at Leeds (I’ve been every year from 2010-2024, except 2023). He came on 30-40mins late, lil synced loads of the set (very obviously) and played snippets of most songs, so just as you got into it, it would switch to something else. Apart from Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2016 (which is a story for another time), it’s the most disappointing headline set I’ve ever at any festival I’ve been to, let alone Leeds. I have him another chance in 2017 and I don’t know if it was the bad hangover I had from last time I saw him, or the newer stuff he opened with, or how While She Sleeps were finally headlining the tent opposite, or the fact I’d been badly hurt watching KoRn 2 hours before (which I had to be carried away from and taken to A&E the next day from), I couldn’t be arsed sticking around. I’ll say this; if you’ve never seen him and have grown up loving him, do go out of your way to see him. He’s a legend and one of the most important acts of the last 30 years; you will either come away from it feeling vindicated or come away feeling massively underwhelmed. You might as well go along and decide for yourself! Edited 14 hours ago by Andre91

They headlined Truck in 2017 and now they’re a sub or third down next year so they seem to be okay with lower slots. Shockingly low slot at Boardmasters too. craigcharles420
No idea what happened with Franz, they got off to a better start than most any other indie band of the 2000s but seemed to run out of steam by the third album commercially, although I find it quite decent myself. They shouldn't be that low down in the lineup

They shouldn't be that low down in the lineup I think Tonight is great as well. Maybe if it had come out earlier than 2009 there would've been momentum, but equally, I feel like I have read it had a bit of a messy creation and then there was talk they nearly broke up before instead making Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, and even then by that point, they'd gone down to lower points and a headline show at Roundhouse. Can vouch for that as I was at one of the Roundhouse gigs in 2014, which was recorded for a live album. Was a really good night tbf.

Admittedly I would prefer a full Franz show than Courteeners, which is the one of Truck's headliners I'm the least arsed by.
DomDom1984
Going back to Eminem, he definitely lip synced a LOT of his show at T in 2010. I put it down to him having not really toured in a long time but apparently not.

We can't complain about lip syncing or DJs playing tracks and the act being the hype man, when we're having DJ sets with pre mixed tunes, and Fred stood 'hand syncing' on his mixing board and hyping his own tracks up—and we love it. You go out to see an act and listen to music. I'd like to see the illusion they're singing parts of it, but you can understand it when Taylor Swift is perfectly in line with the words and then stops to breath and the melody or vocals carry on with zero inflection. Charli XCX was different though. She was mouthing words that didn't align with the song and you can see that on the big screen and it was bad. At least Eminem you get an illusion he's singing. DomDom1984
If you can get away with it then sure, but once the illusion is shattered, the show is done, and that was the case with Eminem in 2010. It was blatant. If I found out after a show someone lip synced my attitude would most likely be "f**k it".

Your Fred comment is incorrect as he does loads of stuff live. Same for Disclosure. Edited 2 hours ago by Andre91
